Residents invited to help shape plans for retirement accommodation in Solihull
02 October 2015
A public exhibition will give local residents the opportunity to view and comment on McCarthy and Stone’s preliminary plans to redevelop land at 216, 218 and 220 Blossomfield Road, Solihull.
McCarthy and Stone’s plans seek to redevelop this site with approximately 42 high-quality Retirement Living apartments, specifically designed to meet the needs of local people in later life.
The public exhibition marks the next stage of the community consultation following initial meetings with neighbouring residents. The public exhibition will be held:
On: Wednesday 7th October 2015
At: The Damson Suite, Solihull College and Conference Centre,
Blossomfield Road, Solihull, B91 1SB
Between: 3pm – 7pm
McCarthy and Stone believes the redevelopment of the site offers an important opportunity to provide much needed Retirement Living apartments, increasing the housing choice for local older people. According to the Office for National Statistics, the local over 65s population is predicted to rise by 52% over the next 20 years.
The high-quality, sensitive design includes a mixture of one and two bed apartments and will complement the architecture of existing developments nearby. The majority of existing trees on the site will be retained and form part of the residents’ communal garden.
Darren Humphreys, Regional Managing Director at McCarthy and Stone said:
“We have spent time carefully researching the architecture and character of this part of Solihull, and our proposals feature a traditional design to the frontage which reflects the surrounding area."
“We want to hear from the local community and our future home-owners before we submit a planning application. We will be displaying our plans at a public exhibition and our project team will be there to answer questions and listen to feedback on what we have done so far. The comments we receive will help us tailor our proposal into something people will want to see, enjoy and call home.”
McCarthy and Stone is renowned for the quality of its developments that give homeowners the time and opportunity to do things they’ve always wanted to do. The apartments allow people in later life to retain their independence, close to their family and friends, in their own home suited specifically for homeowners’ needs, in a safe and enjoyable environment.
McCarthy and Stone’s development represents an investment of several million pounds into the local area, including creating construction jobs for local contractors. Based on our experience of existing developments, residents do their shopping in a one-mile radius of their new home with 80% using local shops daily. Homeowners in an average McCarthy and Stone development spend £670,000 in the local economy each year.
