Poundbury Retirees celebrate the Queen's visit from up high

28 October 2016

Her Majesty the Queen was joined by The Prince Of Wales on a special visit to Poundbury yesterday, where they unveiled a giant statue and tribute of the late Queen Mother in the main square, which was also named in her honour.

Homeowners at McCarthy and Stone’s Assisted Living development, Bowes Lyon Court, which is taken from the late Queen Mother’s maiden name – Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon, took to the building’s impressive outdoor terrace which overlooks Queen Mother Square, to watch the big unveiling, and where they had amongst the best views of the proceedings, and Her Majesty.

The celebrations saw the staff at Bowes Lyon Court put on a ‘right royal tea party’ complete with finger sandwiches, sparkling wine and plenty of union jack bunting, flags, balloons and a homemade Union Jack cake to get everyone feeling suitably patriotic and in the party spirit.

Kim Caldwell, Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone, said: “Everyone really enjoyed themselves at our special party for the Queen. It was a great way for homeowners to feel part of the celebrations going on outside in the square, and we were lucky enough to have some of the best views of the statue and of the royal car arriving. The noise from the square was incredible and at Bowes Lyon Court there was a real buzz about the place with everyone excited to catch a glimpse of Her Majesty.

“Many of our homeowners have apartments which look directly out onto the square and the statue so they really do have that regal feeling. It’s such a fitting tribute and a great center piece addition to Queen Mother Square.”
