Planning permission for retirement homes in Stow-on-the-Wold

07 June 2017

Plans for a new prestigious Retirement Living Plus development in Stow-on-the-Wold have been approved by Cotswold District Council.

The UK’s leading retirement developer, McCarthy and Stone, will develop the land on the disused site on Roman Road into a specialised Retirement Living Plus complex of 44 luxury one and two bedroom apartments, designed for those aged 70 and over.

Retirement Living Plus is the new name for Assisted Living. These developments have all the same features and benefits as Assisted Living by offering homeowners the opportunity to maintain an independent lifestyle. Homeowners also have access to tailored domestic and personal assistance packages to help them manage their day-to-day lives, with an onsite bistro providing freshly cooked meals.

An Estates Manager at the Stow-on-the-Wold development will be on hand to take care of the smooth-running of the development; while security entrance systems and 24 hour emergency call points will provide added peace-of-mind for homeowners and their families. Facilities will also include a homeowners’ lounge, ideal for socialising with friends; landscaped gardens; and a convenient guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay.

Robert Monkman, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone West Midlands, commented: “We are pleased to announce we have received planning approval for the scheme at Stow-on-the-Wold. The feedback from the consultation process was extremely useful and we have worked with members of the community to develop plans that reflect their wishes, and which are sensitive to the local architecture and character of the village.”

McCarthy and Stone estimates that the average total expenditure per year generated by its homeowners in the local economy for a scheme such as this is around £670,000 which could provide a welcome boost to nearby shops and cafes. This is £125,000 more than a general needs housing scheme, and which will provide £69,000 in council tax for local facilities.[1]

Included within this are local jobs; and McCarthy and Stone estimates the plans will see them employ around 60 local companies, with additional opportunities once the scheme opens.

More than nine out of ten customers would recommend McCarthy and Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 12 years’ running.  McCarthy and Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade, which is every year the awards have been run.
