Newport couple celebrate diamond wedding anniversary
20 October 2015
Homeowners at a Newport Assisted Living development have been celebrating this week, after one of the couples reached their 60th wedding anniversary.
Robert and Eileen Dean celebrated the milestone by cutting a cake at a special party which was attended by all the homeowners at McCarthy and Stone’s Somers Brook Court, as well as the couple’s friends and family, including one of the original Bridesmaids at their wedding.
The pair married on 19 October 1955, in St Paul’s Church in Shanklin, before Robert’s career in the Royal Air Force took them all over the world.
Both are now retired and returned to the island after their son-in-law started a posting as the vicar of two small churches in Cowes, moving to be closer to their family. After looking at a few properties in the area they decided on McCarthy and Stone’s Somers Brook Court development on Foxes Road as the ideal setting to relax and make the most of their retirement years.
Providing his tips for a successful marriage, Robert, 81, said: “When you are happy and content with each other time just seems to pass you by. My advice would be that you have to be friends as well as love somebody, and never go to bed on an argument!”
Talking about their anniversary celebrations Eileen, 84, added: “We had an absolutely brilliant day and everyone we spoke to said they really enjoyed themselves. It was great that so many of our family members could make it and we could introduce them to all the amazing friends we’ve made since moving to Somers Brook Court.”
Estates Manager at Somers Brook Court, Virginia Brown, said: “A thriving community and companionship is just one of the many benefits of living in a McCarthy and Stone development, and Mr and Mrs Dean’s anniversary party is such a brilliant example of that. We can’t wait for more homeowners to celebrate milestone birthdays and anniversaries with us so we have an excuse to have another party!”
McCarthy and Stone’s Assisted Living developments aim to bridge the gap between conventional Retirement Living and residential care. Homeowners are able to retain independence in the form of home ownership yet still have the peace of mind from a range of additional 24/7 security and support services.
Virginia Brown continues: “At McCarthy and Stone we are proud to help people stay independent for longer and really make the most of every minute of their retirement. That is why we are so committed to delivering an exceptional lifestyle for our residents at Somers Brook Court with a beautiful setting, fantastic food and luxuriously appointed accommodation – all with the peace of mind that care, support and friendship is close at hand. This is particularly important to relatives who want to be certain their parent, grandparent or relative is enjoying the very best quality of life.”
Facilities at Somers Brook Court include a fantastic on-site table service restaurant, a homeowners’ lounge, private gardens in which to relax, two lifts, and flexible domestic and personalised care packages, which can be tailored to provide varying levels of support according to homeowners’ individual needs. In addition, a dedicated and experienced Estates Manager ensures the smooth running of the development, with 24 hour, 365 days a year on-site staffing, providing peace of mind for both homeowners and their families alike.
