Newcastle Upon Tyne central MP attends ground-breaking ceremony for McCarthy and Stone retirement homes in Gosforth

28 February 2015

McCarthy and Stone, the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, is delighted to announce that construction work has started on its new Assisted Living development on Kenton Road in Gosforth.

To mark the occasion, Chi Onwurah MP was invited along to a ground breaking ceremony at the development, at which she was taken through plans for the site and had the chance to don a hard hat to officially kick off construction.

McCarthy and Stone’s Assisted Living developments aim to bridge the gap between conventional Retirement Living and residential care. Homeowners are able to retain independence in the form of home ownership, yet still have the peace of mind of a range of additional 24/7 security and support services.

The new development, will comprise a mix of 53 one and two bedroom stylish apartments, designed exclusively for the over 70s which are now available to buy off plan, with first occupations due to take place in spring 2016.

Chi Onwurah MP, pictured, said: “Kenton Lodge is an iconic building on the edge of the Town Moor which I remember from my childhood so it was a particular pleasure to formally mark the start of its renovation as part of McCarthy and Stone’s new retirement homes project. Living independently and securely is so important and as we are living longer, it’s great to see developments like this in Newcastle upon Tyne which will help local homeowners to remain independent for longer and maintain their lifestyle with dignity.”

Karen Harrowell, Sales Manager at McCarthy and Stone Northern, added: “We are very thankful to Chi Onwurah MP for taking the time to visit our new Gosforth site and we were honoured that she was there to mark the official start to construction.

“The development will offer those over 70 a stunning modern design, alongside an extensive range of facilities and personalised care packages, to help homeowners enjoy every minute in their new property. We are confident that the site will prove very popular with local homeowners and look forward to speaking with them to explain all the benefits that Assisted Living from McCarthy and Stone can offer.”

As standard, each individual apartment incorporates 24 hour emergency call points, a camera- entry system and easy-grip lever taps in both the bathroom and kitchen to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for homeowners.

Facilities will also include an onsite table service restaurant, a homeowners’ lounge and a lift. A dedicated Estates Manager will be on hand to ensure the smooth running of the development, with 24 hour, 365 days a year on-site staffing, providing peace of mind for both residents and their families alike.
