The UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone, has announced the launch of its new Retirement Living development on Hempstead Road in Bovingdon, which has been named Mountbatten House in honour of Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma.

Born in 1900 in Berkshire, German aristocrat Louis Mountbatten, was son to Prince Louis of Battenberg and Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine.  Mountbatten was educated at home before being sent to Lockers Park School in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire; a short distance from the new McCarthy and Stone Retirement Living development.

An Admiral and Statesman, successes throughout Mountbatten’s career resulted in him becoming Earl Mountbatten of Burma in 1947. Mountbatten spent many of his later years enhancing intercultural understanding. In 1984 the Mountbatten Institute was established with his eldest daughter as the patron; it provided young adults with the opportunity to enhance their intercultural appreciation through spending time abroad.

Stephen Rolt, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone North London, said: “We wanted to choose a name for our new Bovingdon development that is not only memorable, but would also resonate with local people and future McCarthy and Stone homeowners. Our chosen name, Mountbatten House, will serve as a celebration of the life of Louis Mountbatten, his education in Hemel Hempstead and outstanding career; something we hope will interest future homeowners.”

A computer generated image of the development, which is currently under construction, has been released to show how Mountbatten House will look when complete. Comprising 34 luxury Retirement Living apartments for the over 60’s, Mountbatten House will offer Hertfordshire retirees the opportunity to downsize and maintain an independent and active lifestyle, surrounded by like-minded individuals.

The Retirement Living development will feature a Club Lounge, ideal for socialising with new-found friends, a Guest Suite for when homeowners have visitors to stay, and beautifully maintained landscaped gardens.  A House Manager will take care of the day-to-day running of Mountbatten House, while secure entry systems and 24-hour emergency call points will provide added peace-of-mind for homeowners and family alike.

Situated in the charming village of Bovingdon in Hertfordshire, homeowners at the new development will be able to make the most of the wide variety of local shops and amenities in the village. With London a short train journey away, Mountbatten House is the perfect location for retirees who require easy accessibility to London.

More than 90% of customers would recommend McCarthy and Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the maximum Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders’ Federation for 12 years running.  It is the only UK house builder of any size or type to achieve a Five Star award for every year of the HBF’s awards.
