An active couple who enjoy exploring the great outdoors, Mr and Mrs Taylor decided to make the move from their home in Aberdeen to McCarthy and Stone’s Melksham Retirement Living development, Meadowsweet Place, where they are now making the most of having more time on their hands.

Robert Taylor (76) met Trina (76) in 1961 while they were both working at the RAF station in Melksham. They moved to Aberdeen in 1981 and 38 years later, the couple made the decision to move back to Melksham to retire in familiar surroundings.

Robert explained: “We enjoy travelling, and the maintenance of the house in Aberdeen was becoming more of a worry each time we went away.  We wanted a property we felt comfortable to leave when we were on our travels, and we decided it was time to downsize and to move back down to Melksham.”

Robert continued: “When we were staying down in Melksham we saw an article in the Wiltshire Times about the new McCarthy and Stone development and we decided to find out more.  The sales team at Meadowsweet Place were extremely helpful and supported us with the sale of our home in Aberdeen.”

McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living developments enable the over 60s to maintain an active and independent lifestyle.  Low maintenance apartments designed with safety and security in mind allow homeowners to spend more time enjoying all the benefits of being part of community of like-minded individuals.

There are a range of facilities available at Meadowsweet Place, including a club lounge and landscaped gardens, which are ideal for socialising with new-found friends.  A hotel-style guest suite is available for when homeowners have visitors to stay.

Not huge fans of gardening, Mr and Mrs Taylor were pleased to learn they could leave the maintenance to McCarthy and Stone’s expert team.  They could also relax knowing a house manager is on hand to take care of the day-to-day running of the development, and a secure entry system provides added peace-of-mind.

“We’re always out and about,” Robert explained.  “Being able to shut up the apartment and not worry about the maintenance has allowed us to be able to get out even more.

“We’ve enjoyed getting to know all our new neighbours at Meadowsweet Place. There is a really good rapport and community feel.  There are often coffee mornings which we attend and we’ve also started to get involved in arranging other activities at the development.”

When asked if they would recommend moving to a McCarthy and Stone development, Robert stated: “It all depends on the circumstances of the individual. For us, it certainly was the right move and we’d definitely recommend to anyone looking to downsize to consider McCarthy and Stone.

“Throughout the whole process the communication with the McCarthy and Stone team has been great and we’ve enjoyed being able to make our apartment our own.”

Ryan Dauncey, Sales Consultant at Meadowsweet Place, commented: “A McCarthy and Stone apartment is more than just a new home, it really is a lifestyle choice. With no maintenance worries, homeowners are free to spend more time doing the things they enjoy.

“A fantastic community has started to develop at Meadowsweet Place and we’re delighted to hear Mr and Mrs Taylor are enjoying their new lifestyle at the Retirement Living development. Every year, around 33,500 events are held across McCarthy and Stone's managed properties, and it’s really rewarding to see the many opportunities for socialising that these bring for homeowners.”
