McCarthy and Stone’s retirement accommodation scheme approved for development

28 August 2015

Epping Forest District Council has given McCarthy & Stone planning permission to redevelop the former tennis courts at Alderton Hill with 38 high-quality apartments specifically designed for people in later life.

The scheme will help meet an identified housing need and provide a positive contribution to the community by increasing local housing choice.

Plans for the Retirement Living development could generate more than £675,000 a year for the local economy through resident spending.

Ali Maruf, Regional Managing Director (North London), said:

“It is clear Epping Forest needs more retirement accommodation in order to keep up with its rising elderly population. Our new development at Alderton Hill will help address this increasing need whilst providing a high quality development to enhance the local area.”

McCarthy and Stone’s scheme will introduce a sensitively designed building which reflects the character of the local area. The development includes a homeowners’ lounge, guest suite for visitors and lift access to all levels. Professional landscaping will also be provided across the site, as well as 32 car parking spaces.

All the accommodation will deliver a number of features designed to make the apartments more comfortable and manageable, including a fully trained House Manager during the day and access to a 24-hour care line.
