McCarthy and Stone’s Colchester team extends the hand of friendship to local school

19 July 2019

McCarthy and Stone, the housebuilder behind the Lancer House Retirement Living Plus development on Butt Road in Colchester, has donated a buddy bench to the neighbouring Hamilton Primary School in order to help foster friendships outside the classroom.

The brightly-coloured bench, which is now positioned in the playground, is intended to promote positive mental wellbeing, by giving pupils a special place where they can go if they are looking for a companion.

Victoria Smith, Deputy Head Teacher at Hamilton Primary School, commented: “Our school values of friendship, honesty, respect, fairness, effort and courage are very important to us, as is supporting the emotional well-being of our children. By having a buddy bench in the playground, our children can be there for each other when someone needs to talk or find someone to play with – supporting these core values. We are delighted with the bench and are extremely grateful to McCarthy and Stone for their kind donation.”

Simon Pendlebury, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy and Stone North London, said: “We are delighted to hear that Hamilton Primary School will be making good use of the buddy bench. We understand how important it is for people of any age to feel a sense of belonging, and to have a friend they can turn to when they feel the need to talk. Loneliness isn’t just something that affects older people in our communities, but everyone, whatever their age. We hope pupils at Hamilton Primary School continue to develop long-lasting friendships from the bench.”

McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living Plus developments offer the over 70s the opportunity to maintain an independent lifestyle, while having access to tailored domestic and personal assistance packages to help them manage their day-to-day lives – and with an on-site restaurant providing freshly cooked meals for those who don’t wish to cook in their apartments.

An Estates Manager will take care of the day-to-day running of the development, while secure entry systems and 24-hour emergency call points will provide added peace-of-mind.
