McCarthy and Stone to display plans to improve care and accommodation in New Alresford, The Dean

24 November 2015

Local residents have the chance to discuss the opportunity to improve care and accommodation for older people in New Alresford. As McCarthy and Stone, Britain’s leading retirement housebuilder, reveal proposals to redevelop the Warwick Trailers industrial buildings in The Dean, New Alresford, with high-quality Assisted Living (Extra Care) accommodation for private sale.

McCarthy and Stone will display its proposals for local residents at a public exhibition on Monday 7th December 2015, between 3pm and 7pm at Alresford & District Community Association, The Town Hall, 7 West Street, Alresford, SO24 9PP. The exhibition will be an opportunity for local residents to view the proposals and provide feedback to McCarthy and Stone’s project team.

McCarthy and Stone is looking to introduce much-needed Extra Care accommodation to meet the needs of frail older people in New Alresford. The Dean presents this opportunity as the site is ear-marked for development in the Winchester District Local Plan Part 2 and the Warwick Trailers buildings have been specifically identified to deliver specialist Extra Care accommodation for older people.

Shane Paull, Regional Managing Director of McCarthy and Stone commented:

“Our Assisted Living accommodation features a high specification of communal and shared facilities to address everyday needs, including a restaurant and dining room with on-site catering 365 days a year, providing subsidised meals up to three times a day.

He continued:

“They are designed around the needs of our homeowners, promoting independent, healthy and active lives. This form of development offers a home for life with care tailored to individual needs. Our apartments feature a high specification of shared facilities to address homeowners’ everyday needs.

“We want to hear from the local community before we submit a planning application and will be displaying our plans at the exhibition on the 7th December. Our project team will be at the exhibition to answer questions and listen to feedback; the comments we receive will help us tailor our proposals where possible.”

Estate management, care and support are provided by McCarthy and Stone through Your Life Management Services, which is registered with the Care Quality Commission. This is a partnership with Somerset Care Group, a not-for-profit care provider. The development would be over-seen by a fully-registered Estate Manager, with staff based on-site, with support available 24 hours a day. Domestic assistance and personal care packages are provided upon need.

If you are not able to attend the public exhibition or would like further information, McCarthy and Stone has provided a dedicated freephone information line for you to call (0800 298 7040) and has set up a website covering their initial proposals which can be found at
