McCarthy and Stone Honours English Statesman with Development Name

2nd December 2019

McCarthy and Stone, the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, has revealed its new Retirement Living development, on Rainsford Road in Chelmsford, has been named Walter House in honour of Sir Walter Mildmay.

Born in Moulsham, Sir Walter Mildmay served as Chancellor of Exchequer of England under Queen Elizabeth I and was knighted by her Royal Highness in 1546. Throughout his life Mildmay shared his passion for education and in 1584 founded Emmanuel College at the University of Cambridge for just £550, on the site of the dissolved house of the Black Friars.

Julie Ward, National Sales Director for McCarthy and Stone, commented: “We wanted to choose a name for our new Chelmsford development that is not only meaningful, but also resonates with local people and future McCarthy and Stone residents. Our chosen name, Walter House, recognises and celebrates Sir Walter Mildmay – and his service as Chancellor of the Exchequer and founder of Emmanuel House.”

Once complete, Walter House will comprise of 45 luxury Retirement Living apartments for the over 60s and will offer retirees the opportunity to downsize and maintain an active, independent lifestyle, surrounded by like-minded individuals.

Walter House will be available to buy off-plan in Autumn 2020 and first occupants are expected in Spring 2021. A CGI has today been released to show how the development will look once complete.

The development will feature a communal lounge; ideal for socialising with friends; landscaped gardens in which to relax; and a comfortable guest suite, should residents have friends or relatives to stay.  A dedicated House Manager will take care of the day-to-day running of the development; while a secure entry system and 24-hour emergency call points will provide added peace-of-mind.

Full of historic and cultural attractions, McCarthy and Stone homeowners will be able to benefit from the extensive range of shops, restaurants and essential amenities in Chelmsford. Those who love the great outdoors can benefit from the developments nearby location to Warley Place Nature Reserve, now maintained by Essex Wildlife Trust.
