McCarthy & Stone submits plans for Goose Hill, Morpeth
14 August 2015
McCarthy & Stone, the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, has submitted plans to redevelop land on Goose Hill with high-quality Retirement Living apartments.
The proposals include 55 one and two-bedroom apartments, 42 on-site car parking spaces and professionally landscaped gardens. McCarthy & Stone believes its proposals will offer local older people the opportunity to downsize, and in turn, help to release larger homes onto the market for families looking to move up the property ladder.
McCarthy & Stone carried out a consultation on its early proposals, including a public exhibition held in May, to which around 1,000 residents, businesses and stakeholders were invited. Of those who responded to the consultation 74% supported the plans.
Steve Secker, Regional Managing Director at McCarthy & Stone (Northern Region) said:
“We are encouraged by the positive feedback that our proposals have received throughout the consultation process and would like to thank those who have taken the time to provide us with their views."
“We hope that members and officers at Northumberland County Council will also see the benefits of the scheme when determining the application, as we believe Morpeth needs this type of housing."
The decision on whether to go ahead with the plans now lies with the members of the Council’s North Area Planning Committee, which is likely to vote on the planning application in the winter.
