McCarthy & Stone submit plans for Retirement Living apartments in Harwood
19 November 2014
McCarthy & Stone, Britain’s leading retirement housebuilder, has submitted plans to redevelop land at Longsight Lane, Harwood with high-quality, Retirement Living accommodation.
The plans, submitted to Bolton Council, have been specifically designed to meet the needs of older people while offering an attractive design that will complement the surrounding area.
If approved, the development will see the site transformed into 28 one and two bedroom apartments complete with on-site car parking and professionally designed landscaped gardens.
The proposals will also mean the relocation of the tennis courts that currently occupy the site, meaning the local community will not lose the well-liked sports facility.
Consultation on the proposal was carried out by McCarthy & Stone including an exhibition to which over 900 residents, businesses and representatives were invited to in order to gather feedback. The results of the feedback indicate large levels of approval for the scheme, with 70% of respondents expressing support for the plans.
Steve Secker, Regional Managing Director at McCarthy & Stone (Northern Region) said:
“We are delighted with the positive feedback our proposals have received throughout the consultation process and would like to thank the community for their valuable comments. It is clear that local residents are supportive of the plans we have submitted.”
“We hope that members and officers at Bolton Council will also see the benefits of the scheme when determining the application as we believe there is much demand for this type of housing in Harwood.”
The decision on whether to go ahead with the plans now lies with Bolton Council’s Planning Committee who are likely to vote on the planning application in early in 2015.
