McCarthy and Stone, the housebuilder behind the new Lewis House Retirement Living development on Beulah Hill in Upper Norwood, has donated £500 to Upper Norwood Association for Community Care.

Founded in the 1970s, the Upper Norwood Association for Community Care (UNACC), is a day centre for the over 50s which offers a safe and inclusive meeting place for older people, as well as access to a wide range of activities and outings. UNACC also promotes any charitable purposes that benefits the older community in Upper Norwood, particularly education, healthy living and the relief of poverty, distress, isolation and sickness.

Natalie Fernandez, Centre Manager, comments: “We are delighted to receive this kind donation and gesture of support from McCarthy and Stone. We are a charitable organisation, part-funded by Croydon Council, and donations of this kind are extremely important to us in helping to maintain the centre and offer a range of activities, and to enable volunteers to extend friendship and practical support to people who would otherwise be isolated in the local community.”

Georgina Akers, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone South East, said: “As a company we appreciate that our responsibilities go further than developing quality retirement properties - we also seek to create a positive legacy and make a difference in the communities in which we build.

“When we were looking for a charity in the Upper Norwood area to support, Upper Norwood Association for Community Care, stood out for the health and wellbeing benefits it provides, and the difference it makes in helping to combat loneliness in the community. As a developer which strives to enrich the lives of retires through the opportunity to enjoy an independent retirement surrounded by like-minded individuals, it was our absolute pleasure to present this donation to such a deserving charity.”

Currently under construction on Beulah Hill, Lewis House will eventually comprise 26 one and two bedroom apartments, exclusively for people aged 60 and over. The first properties are set to be released for off-plan sales in autumn 2018, and first occupations are expected to follow in early 2019.

When complete, Lewis House will feature a stunning club lounge, ideal for socialising with friends, and a convenient guest suite, should homeowners have friends or family to stay. Beautiful landscaped gardens will be fully maintained by expert gardeners and a House Manager will take care of the smooth-running of the development, while video entry and a 24-hour emergency call system will provide added peace of mind.

Ideally located in the heart of Upper Norwood, Lewis House is within easy reach of all the town’s amenities, including supermarkets and shops. Future homeowners will also benefit from excellent public transport links to the heart of London, which is just seven miles away.

More than nine out of ten customers would recommend McCarthy and Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 13 years’ running. McCarthy and Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade for 13 years, which is every year the awards have been run.
