McCarthy & Stone sets sail in Benllech with donation to RNLI Moelfre lifeboat station

09 February 2018

McCarthy and Stone, the housebuilder behind the Plas Glanrafon Retirement Living development in Benllech, has presented RNLI Moelfre Lifeboat Station with a £300 donation as part of its ongoing commitment to make a positive contribution to the local area.

Originally formed by the Anglesey County Association, Moelfre Lifeboat Station has a remarkable history of bravery, with its lifeboat crews being awarded 37 medals for gallantry over the years.  Today the station continues to play an important role in the community and is neighboured by a RNLI Sea Watch centre and shop.  It is served by 27 volunteer lifeboat crew members and 8 volunteer shore crew, as well as many other dedicated volunteers who support through fundraising, giving safety advice, and providing assistance in the shop.

McCarthy and Stone’s £300 donation will support Moelfre Lifeboat Station with its ongoing commitment to the seas of Anglesey, which includes maintaining boating equipment and supervising the East Anglesey coast.

Vince Jones, Lifeboat Mechanic at the RNLI Moelfre Lifeboat Station, was greeted by Karon Flanagan at McCarthy and Stone, who handed over a cheque for £300.

Vince Jones said: “All of our volunteers and staff work tirelessly to keep a safe eye on the bay and to ensure the lifeboat station is well-maintained, so that everyone is ready when the lifeboats need to be launched.  The team has saved countless lives in the toughest of conditions and the support of the wider community is always welcomed.  We are therefore grateful to McCarthy and Stone for its generous donation, which will help the Moelfre Lifeboat Station to continue to protect and serve the people of the Anglesey coast”.

Fiona Brooks, Regional Sales and Marketing Director McCarthy and Stone North West, added: “As a company we appreciate that our responsibilities go further than developing quality retirement properties - we also seek to create a positive legacy and make a difference in the communities in which we build.

“Plas Glanrafon, our new Retirement Living development in Benllech, is within half a mile of the beautiful beach and the Anglesey Coastal Path, which our homeowners and their families will be able to enjoy at their leisure; so it is an absolute pleasure to present this donation to a very important coastal cause. We wish the team at Moelfre Lifeboat Station every success with its formidable lifesaving efforts.”

Plas Glanrafon will feature a stunning homeowners’ lounge, ideal for enjoying a catch-up with friends and neighbours, and a guest suite will be available for family members and acquaintances who come to stay.  The beautifully landscaped gardens, which will be fully maintained by McCarthy and Stone’s expert team, feature a seating area to make the most of the sea views. For added peace-of-mind, a House Manager will be available to take care of the smooth-running of the development, and there will be a 24-hour emergency call system should assistance be needed day or night.

Plas Glanrafon is the ideal option for those seeking a high quality retirement apartment within walking distance of the tranquil beachfront. For those who like to explore the local area, Benllech is easily connected to neighbouring towns such as Llangefni, Beaumaris, Bangor and Almwch.
