McCarthy & Stone Reveals Prestwich Development Name

04 October 2012

Retirement property developer McCarthy & Stone has revealed the name of its newest Assisted Living development in Prestwich as Broadfield Court.

Six-year-old Mollie Brooks Johnston’ suggestion was selected following a competition run by McCarthy & Stone to find a name for the development which had local significance.

Edward Broadfield was a local man famous for being an educationalist and was influential in the creation of the Halle Orchestra. Next year marks the 100th anniversary of his death.

Pupils from nearby Park View Primary School worked together to think of suitable names for the development, but it was class two Mollie’s idea that was judged the winner. Through her research, Mollie discovered Broadfield lived in a house on the site of the development called Roseleigh.

Fiona Brooks, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy & Stone, said:

“We pride ourselves on building communities and not just homes, so we always aim to select names for our new developments that will have real meaning to the local residents.

“Being able to work alongside the students at Park View Primary School has helped us to gain a better understanding of the local community as a whole, and we have been really impressed by the amount of valuable research they each put in to coming up with some great names. We really can’t thank Mollie enough for suggesting Broadfield Court!”

When completed, the one and two bedroom properties will be situated on Bury New Road, only a short distance from the heart of Prestwich town centre.

Broadfield Court will provide 62 Assisted Living apartments designed exclusively for those over the age of 70 who may need additional assistance with their daily lives, and will aim to bridge the gap between conventional retirement developments and residential care.

Each property will include thoughtful design features including 24 hour emergency call points, a level access shower and bath, an electrically operated window in the kitchen, electrical sockets at a raised height to reduce bending, as well as being wheelchair accessible.

Additional facilities and support services will be available, including a shared lounge, a waitress service restaurant, offering a midday meal every day of the year, and a guest suite for visiting family and friends.

Furthermore, staff will be on site 24 hours a day and, as part of the service charge, one hour of domestic assistance will be available each week. For those who require it, personal care can be arranged, via an appointed care agency, to suit individual residents’ needs as they arise.

Construction is expected to begin in December 2013, with first occupations expected by March 2014.
