McCarthy & Stone pledges ongoing support to Bridgwater charity

25 September 2017

The UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone, has pledged its support to local Bridgwater charity, Somerset Film.

A registered charity operating on a social enterprise basis, Somerset Film aims to empower the local community through the use of film and digital technology, by offering people of all ages the chance to learn new skills for use in the creative industry, other employment or for their own enjoyment.

Recognising the importance of contributing to local community projects, McCarthy and Stone has appointed Somerset Film as its videographer across the retirement housebuilder’s South West region, contributing approximately £20,000 to the organisation since the partnership was established earlier this year.

Founded in 1995, Somerset Film aims to give the community across Somerset continued access to knowledge and expertise in filmmaking. Its dedicated media centre, ‘The Engine Room’ in Bridgwater, is open for the community to visit and improve their skills in technology, digital and creative.

Deb Richardson, Producer at Somerset Film, said: “Since the arts organisations have taken huge funding cuts, services such as ours are in desperate need of continued support to fill financial gaps.  We are hugely grateful to McCarthy and Stone for choosing to support us by investing in our video services. All of our surplus funds go towards the media centre in Bridgwater and a range of outreach initiatives, meaning the local community can continue to have access to knowledge, facilities and services.”

Running dedicated programmes for 16-19 year olds and schools across the country alongside other initiatives, Somerset Film supports over 5,000 people a year through its services, which it hopes to take even further thanks to McCarthy and Stone.

Deb continued: “Although we currently have programmes in place for the younger generation in Bridgwater and the wider region, we’d love to extend this towards the older generation. The continued support from McCarthy and Stone means we can continue to offer activities to the local community.”

Simon Mantell, Managing Director at McCarthy and Stone South West, said: “It is a pleasure to support local community projects such as Somerset Film in Bridgwater, where McCarthy and Stone has created a thriving new community at our Blake Court Retirement Living development. Our partnership means we can continue to empower the older generation, inviting them to learn new digital skills, while also supporting a local charity that has a huge impact on the wider Bridgwater community.”

Situated on Northgate in Bridgwater, Blake Court features a homeowners’ lounge, ideal for socialising with friends; and beautiful gardens where homeowners can relax, knowing all maintenance is taken care of.  They can also feel secure in the knowledge that the House Manager is on hand to provide any help or support should they need it; and that friends and family can stay over whenever they choose in the development’s comfortable guest suite.

Designed exclusively for the over 60s, McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living developments offer homeowners the very best in independent living within a safe and secure environment, with the opportunity to benefit from companionship when desired, as well as privacy when needed.
