12 May 2017

The UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone has announced the forthcoming launch of an exclusive new Retirement Living development in Melksham.

Now that construction at the site is fully underway, McCarthy and Stone is inviting local people to enter its ‘What’s in a Name’ competition, to suggest a name for the new Retirement Living development on Spa Road.

The plans will see the land that Withleigh House currently sits on transformed into 20 one and two bedroom Retirement Living apartments, specifically designed for those aged 60 and over.

Kim Caldwell, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone, comments: “We know that there is a close-knit community in Melksham and that locals are very proud of its picturesque landscape on the banks of the River Avon. We feel it is important to design homes which reflect the character of the town, and want to give locals the opportunity to have their say and put their own stamp on the future plans.”

As well as the honour of naming the new development in Melksham, the person who comes up with the winning entry will also be awarded a cheque for £250.

Kim Caldwell continues: “We are looking for a name which will really resonate with the local community, and it can be anything from suggestions honouring local heroes, particular moments in the town’s history, or something which is symbolic of the local landscape.”

To be in with a chance of naming McCarthy and Stone's exciting new development, and to win £250, all you have to do is send your name and contact details, along with your suggested development name, with the subject header ‘Melksham’ to The competition is open to people of all ages from Melksham and the surrounding areas, and the deadline for entries is 16th June.

Located in the heart of Melksham town centre, the development will be designed for people that want the best of both worlds – the independence that comes with home ownership, but also the benefits of living within an age-exclusive community. All of the apartments will come with spacious and open plan living spaces, sleek and fully fitted kitchens with integrated appliances, as well as ample communal space with a large homeowner’s lounge and landscaped gardens, perfect for socialising with friends.

Exterior maintenance and window cleaning will all be taken care of, and a select number of apartments will have balconies and patios. Added benefits are an experienced House Manager who will oversee the day to day running of the development, a camera entry system, intruder alarm, and 24-hour emergency call system meaning homeowners can set off on their holidays, or visiting friends and family knowing their home is secure.
