McCarthy & Stone help the twinkling two fly high!
25 October 2013
McCarthy & Stone, the UK’s leading developer of retirement apartments, has sponsored two local residents from Solihull to help them achieve their dreams of learning to fly.
Althea Gaye, 91 and Ray Fullard were given the opportunity to take a flying lesson and helped raise money for Age UK Solihull in the process. Businesses in the local area helped to support including Wellesbourne School of Flying who donated their time, plane and fuel to give Althea her first ever experience of being behind the cockpit on a plane.
Emily Cooper, Fundraising Manager at Age UK Solihull, comments: “It was a joy to work with Althea and Ray, and we hope her brave feat will inspire other older people to follow their dreams, no matter what age they are. Thanks to the generous support of McCarthy & Stone we managed to raise over £2000 for our local charity, Age UK Solihull. The money raised will enable us to continue to support local older people who need us most.”
Gill Sabin, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy & Stone, added: “We’re delighted we were able to help Althea and Ray’s dreams become a reality. Everything we do is built around a belief that later life can be rich, rewarding and fulfilling, and we are always keen to support the local communities in which we build in.”
