McCarthy & Stone Gets into the Groove to Support Royal Charity

15 May 2014

Homeowner’s from McCarthy & Stone’s Crayshaw Court development in Caversham got into the swing of a bygone era this week when they played host to The Harmonettes, the UK’s leading female vocal harmony trio.

Kick-starting a 9 date tour which will cover McCarthy & Stone developments located  across the South East, The Harmonettes offered  the ideal soundtrack for a day of special fundraising activities, which were organised  to raise much needed cash for McCarthy & Stone’s current ‘Charity of the Year’, Royal Voluntary Service.

Enjoying a selection of hits from the 1920’s through to the 1960’s, guests and visitors rock and rolled their way to fundraising success whilst enjoying a number of additional attractions such as a cake stall and a vintage fancy dress photo booth.

Julie Ward, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy & Stone, said:  “Research shows that it’s important to stay active in later life, and enjoyable gentle exercise such as dancing, or even laughing can help improve immune function increase balance, co-ordination and strength.*

“By holding this musical extravaganza in aid of Royal Voluntary Service, we hope we have not only shown people just how easy it is to stay active and have fun in your later years, but also have raised some awareness for a charity that achieves remarkable things in highlighting just how valuable the contribution made by active over 60’s is to society.”

Royal Voluntary Service supports over 100,000 older people to stay independent in their own homes for longer with tailor made solutions. Through its army of volunteers, the charity runs services such as Good Neighbours (companionship), Meals-on-Wheels and Books-on-Wheels that alleviate loneliness and help older people. Royal Voluntary Service also provides practical support for older people who have been in hospital through its On Ward Befriending and Home from Hospital services.

As part of the charitable partnership, McCarthy & Stone will aim to raise at least £75,000 for Royal Voluntary Service before the end of 2014 through a combination of national events, as well as fundraising and volunteering initiatives across more than 150 retirement developments throughout the UK.

Available exclusively for those over the age of 60, Crayshaw Court is designed especially for those who want the independence of retaining home ownership while living in an environment specifically constructed for those reaching their later years.

A development of 54 one and two bedroom Retirement Living apartments Crayshaw Court is situated close to the Christchurch Meadows, and is only a short walk from local shops and amenities. Prices start from £249,950.
