Lyme Wood Grange Honours Derek McKelvey

27 August 2019

Retirees in the idyllic Cheshire village of Audlem, joined staff and homeowners for a summer garden party at McCarthy and Stone’s new Retirement Living development, Lyme Wood Grange, located on McKelvey Way.

As part of the celebrations, a tree was planted in the development’s landscaped gardens to pay tribute to the late Derek McKelvey – an influential community member – for his lifetime contribution to the village of Audlem. Derek was a well-known figure in the community, having been the Chair of several village organisations. Additionally, he owned, and successfully ran for over 50 years, Williams of Audlem – the village's oldest established shop, on Shropshire Street, with his wife Megan.

Guests at the summer garden party had the opportunity to take a tour of the spacious, luxury apartments, as well as a chance to view the contemporary homeowners’ lounge and guest suite – all whilst enjoying a glass of fizz and light refreshments.

Fiona Brooks, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone North West, said: “Derek McKelvey was a popular influence in Audlem and with the development located on McKelvey Way, we wanted to do our part in paying respect to him and keeping his legacy alive. Having been involved in various community projects and associations throughout his life, it was clear that Derek had a real passion for improving the local area, something we strive to do. We hope we can follow his lead and positively impact the community.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Derek’s family and all our guests who joined us for the garden party. We would encourage anyone over the age of 60 who is considering downsizing to take a look at the development themselves, they won’t be disappointed!”

Lyme Wood Grange features a stunning homeowners’ lounge, ideal for enjoying a catch-up with friends and neighbours; beautifully landscaped gardens, which are fully maintained by McCarthy and Stone’s expert team; and a guest suite, which is available for when family members and friends come to stay.

For added peace-of-mind, a House Manager will take care of the smooth-running of the development, as well a 24 hour emergency call system should assistance be needed day or night.

Lyme Wood Grange’s rural location in the village of Audlem perfectly combines an unspoilt traditional feel with a thriving community. The Shropshire Union Canal runs through the heart of the village, where barges meander their way through the nearby 15 rising locks, designed by the iconic Thomas Telford.

Lyme Wood Grange features only two one-bedroom apartments remaining and 22 two-bedroom apartments, with prices currently starting from £225,000.

More than nine out of ten customers would recommend McCarthy and Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 14 years’ running.  McCarthy and Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade for 14 consecutive years, which is every year the awards have been run.
