Longridge retirement apartments recommended for approval

Planning Officers at Ribble Valley Borough Council have recommended that councillors approve McCarthy and Stone’s application for the development of Retirement Living apartments on Barnacre Road, Longridge.
The plans will see the redevelopment of the derelict site into 33 high-quality Retirement Living apartments, along with attractive, landscaped gardens and on-site car parking. The development will provide facilities for homeowners such as a communal homeowners lounge, lift access, and will also be staffed by a full-time House Manager.
Councillors on Ribble Valley Borough Council’s Planning and Development Committee will make the final decision whether to approve the scheme on Thursday 20 August 2015, and McCarthy and Stone say they hope the opinions of local residents will be heard.
Regional Managing Director, Steve Secker, said:
“McCarthy and Stone undertook an extensive consultation process in Longridge. We held meetings with councillors and neighbours to the site and also held a public exhibition to which over 900 people were invited to in order to view the proposal and offer feedback to the project team.
“Over 95% of respondents to our consultation supported the proposal and Ribble Valley Borough Council has received a further 15 supportive letters regarding the scheme. We are delighted with this response and hope that the councillors on the Planning and Development Committee will consider this when making their final decision.”
Local residents were given opportunities to comment on the proposal at all stages of the planning process. Local resident, Mrs Clayton, who lives on Barnacre Road said, “I’m delighted that McCarthy and Stone has decided to redevelop this site. It has been an eyesore for so long, and as there is clear need for older people’s housing in Longridge, this would be a perfect way to make it more fitting for the village.”
