Just the job: investing in the future in Oakham

19 May 2017

When it comes to supporting local tradespeople and businesses, the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone, is truly leading the way, having employed a team of local contractors, labourers and security to deliver its new Lonsdale Park development in Oakham.

McCarthy and Stone has invested heavily in the local workforce to deliver its latest development on Barleythorpe Road, which will comprise a selection of 43 one and two bedroom Retirement Living apartments for the over 60s.

Since construction began, the development has created jobs for local tradespeople; and it is estimated that, as the site continues to progress further, jobs in areas such as plumbing, electrics, dry lining, painting and decorating will follow.

Darren Clarke, Site Manager at Lonsdale Park, commented: “McCarthy and Stone’s commitment to sourcing its tradespeople from the local work pool provides a welcome boost for the Oakham community. The importance of employing local workforces cannot be underestimated and, as the build programme continues, we will be looking to recruit even more skilled tradespeople from the surrounding area.

“As a leading housebuilder, we invest in quality design and building delivery. This approach – together with careful attention to detail and consideration to providing the very best customer service – add-up to a winning formula. Each and every one of the employees involved in Lonsdale Park, from the construction teams laying bricks on site to the sales teams in the office, plays an active role in turning the McCarthy and Stone vision into reality.”

The apartments at Lonsdale Park will be available to buy off plan June 2017, with first occupations expected in spring 2018.

Cheryl Bissett, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy and Stone East Midlands, said: “At McCarthy and Stone we’re committed to helping older people stay independent for longer while living in a secure, low maintenance apartment with support on hand if required. We are confident that by investing in high quality local talent and skilled tradespeople, we will continue to deliver stunning developments which can be held up as an example of the kind of accommodation older generations truly deserve.”

Facilities at the development will include a stunning homeowners’ lounge ideal for socialising with friends, beautifully landscaped gardens, an on-site car park, and a convenient guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay. Lonsdale Park will also benefit from its very own House Manager, who will ensure the smooth-running of the development; while a security entrance system and 24-hour emergency call points provide added peace of mind for homeowners.

Oakham is located in the heart of the county of Rutland, an area that was recently voted as the ‘best rural place to live in Britain’ by the Daily Telegraph. The array of green parks and fields presents a stunning backdrop for a relaxing retirement, with homeowners at Lonsdale Park able to benefit from a range of essential amenities within easy reach of the development, including shopping, restaurants, Post Office and medical facilities. Future homeowners at Lonsdale Park will also be well serviced by excellent rail links to neighbouring cities of Leicester, Peterborough and Cambridge.
