Just the job: investing in the future in Bitterne Park

11 July 2017

When it comes to supporting local tradesmen and businesses, the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone is truly leading the way, having employed a team of local contractors in Bitterne Park and the surrounding areas, to deliver its new Retirement Living development, The Boathouse in Bitterne Park.

Led by Site Manager Kevin Mayne, McCarthy and Stone has invested heavily in the local workforce. Since construction began at the site in November 2016, the development has created a number of jobs for local tradesmen around Southampton, where Kevin estimates 15 people are currently working on the site every day, including brick layers, scaffolders, and ground workers. It is estimated that as the site continues to progress, a further 45 jobs in areas such as plumbing, electrics, and roofers will follow, moving the number to around 60 people working on the site each day.

Kevin Mayne, Site Manager at The Boathouse in Bitterne Park, commented: “McCarthy and Stone’s commitment to sourcing its tradesmen from the local work pool provides a welcome boost to Bitterne Park and the wider community of Southampton. The Boathouse is still in its infancy but we’ve already had a number of local contractors working across the site, and the importance of employing local workforces and family businesses cannot be underestimated. As The Boathouse continues to progress we will be looking to recruit more skilled tradesmen from the local and surrounding areas.”

Local construction company, Teame Construction in Park Gate, has also been appointed the contract to carry out the bricklaying on the new site.

Set to welcome its first homeowners in July 2018, The Boathouse will comprise a stylish collection of one and two bedroom private apartments, exclusively for those aged 60 and over.

Designed to provide homeowners with the very best in independent living within an environment that is safe and secure, the development offers retirees the privacy of their own apartment with the option to enjoy the companionship of others when they choose to.

Homeowners will find all the standard features of a McCarthy and Stone Retirement Living development, including a stunning homeowners' lounge, ideal for enjoying a cup of tea with friends and neighbours, beautifully landscaped gardens fully maintained by McCarthy and Stone’s expert team, and a guest suite for friends and family who come to stay. For added peace of mind, a House Manager will be available during office hours to ensure the smooth-running of the development, and there will be a 24 hour emergency call system should assistance be needed day or night.
