Help at hand for Harrow retiree at Randolph House

12 April 2019

When Janet Fitz-Gerald, 73, made the move to McCarthy and Stone’s Randolph House Retirement Living Plus development in Harrow this year, she was thinking of the future. Janet wanted the peace-of-mind that comes with living your retirement years to the full in your own apartment, but also knowing that help is on-hand if ever it is needed.

Born and raised in Harrow, Janet had lived in her previous retirement apartment in the neighbouring town of Pinner for nine years. “I’m a single lady and my family don’t live in the area. As I’m getting older I thought about moving where I would have access to more support, should I need it.”

“A friend of mine moved into a nearby McCarthy and Stone development in Ickenham and I was interested to hear all about lifestyle, so I decided to take a look at Randolph House. The main reason I wanted to move was to have access to all of the facilities that weren’t available where I previously lived. I wanted to have help at hand should I ever need it later in life.”

Exclusively designed for the over 70s, Randolph House on Northwick Park Road has been carefully designed to offer homeowners the very best in independent living with a safe and secure environment, with the opportunity to benefit from companionship as well as privacy when needed.

McCarthy and Stone Retirement Living Plus developments include one hour a week of domestic assistance, which covers everything from cleaning and grocery shopping to just running general errands.  Homeowners benefit from access to tailored care packages.

Janet is grateful she made the decision whilst she was still healthy and able to. “Moving isn’t easy”, she notes. “It can be very stressful, but I wanted to move to somewhere that has all of the appropriate facilities should I ever need them at some point in the future. I wanted to move whilst I’m still fit and healthy.”

Janet praised the peace of mind her move has brought to her family. “My brother no longer has to worry about me as he knows I’m in a supportive environment with 24-hour security. He’s coming to visit and will be staying in the on-site guest suite which is really handy and has since proved to be an invaluable luxury.”

As well as a guest suite, Randolph House features landscaped gardens maintained by McCarthy and Stone’s expert team and a stylish Club Lounge with Wi-Fi access. A range of round-the-clock security and support services are available, including a camera door entry system and 24-hour emergency call points. The apartments have their own intruder alarm, the development has lift access to 1st and 2nd floors and wheelchair accessibility.

“Choosing my apartment was difficult as I had an image of what I wanted in mind,” Janet added. “I chose a one-bedroom apartment with a walk-out balcony. I love my balcony and have created my own miniature garden out there. It’s front facing and is a great sun spot which I’ve taken great advantage of in the warmer months”.

“I also took advantage of the McCarthy and Stone Smooth Move service, so I had help with hanging pictures, putting up mirrors and shelves, and any DIY that was required. I’m very pleased to say that everything was completed to my satisfaction.”

Janet has a very busy lifestyle and is often involved with the National Trust, alongside going to concerts, hopping into London and meeting up with friends. All of this hasn’t changed since moving, and Janet is determined to live her life as fully as possible. Having its very own on-site restaurant, serving a freshly prepared lunch each day, is very handy for Janet’s busy calendar.

“The staff here are very friendly, pleasant and respectful; nothing is too much trouble for them. This type of living isn’t for everybody and I recognise that, but it’s suitable for me. Moving is a very emotional experience, but I’m glad I did it as I couldn’t be happier.”

Randolph House features a collection of one and two bedroom apartments, with prices currently starting from £337,995 and £487,950 respectively.

More than 90 percent of customers would recommend McCarthy and Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the maximum Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 13 years’ running.  It is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade for 13 years, which is every year since the awards have been running.
