They say that as we get older, we should relax and enjoy life at a slower pace. One retiree breaking this rule is 69 year old taxi driver Mo Ewasha, who is currently training to run the London Marathon in 2018. After moving to McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living Development, Springhill House in Willesden Green, Mo now has all the time in the world to enjoy his active lifestyle without limits.

A keen runner since the age of 18, Mo puts his running shoes on six times a week covering around 30 miles in his tracks. As a passionate gardener, Mo’s afternoons are spent tending to the flowers and plants at Springhill House, helping McCarthy and Stone’s expert team to keep the landscaped gardens at the development in shape for his fellow neighbours.

Mo said: “I still feel young at heart because I’m so active. Running is a way of life, and I won’t be stopping for a long time! I have recently been accepted to run the London Marathon for Royal Voluntary Service thanks to McCarthy and Stone who helped me to reach my minimum fundraising target with its generous donation of £1,000. It will be the most fantastic experience, and I hope that I continue to raise even more money for this wonderful charity.

“Since moving to Springhill House, I’ve had more time to enjoy doing the things I love most. From my part time job as a taxi driver, to running most mornings and spending my afternoons gardening, McCarthy and Stone has really opened up a new way of life for me. I even enjoy gardening more now than I did at my previous house knowing my neighbours also get to enjoy the benefits!”

When asked why he and his wife Pauline, chose Springhill House as their new home, Mo said: “We’ve lived in the area for a long time and saw the development grow from the very beginning. The site has a very special connection to us too, as Springhill House used to be the registry office where we got married over 42 years ago. It is so lovely to now be living in the exact spot where our marriage first began. There’s something quite magical about that – like it was meant to be!”

McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living developments are designed to offer homeowners the very best in independent living within a safe and secure environment, with the opportunity to benefit from companionship when desired and privacy when needed.

Mo added: “My life is so much easier since we moved here. We have less worries, my wife and I can relax knowing that everything is taken care of. I was reluctant to move at first, but within the first week I was in love with the place and have absolutely no regrets. I still work around fifteen hours a week and I won’t be stopping anytime soon. I would work until I’m 90 if I was allowed!”

Understanding the importance of companionship in later years McCarthy and Stone organises over 40,000 social activities every year for their homeowners up and down the country, with at least three organised activities per development each week.

Talking about his social life, Mo comments: “There’s so many opportunities to get involved and make new friends. We have fish and chips every Friday, coffee mornings, theatre trips and recently we even went for Afternoon Tea at the Shard together. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and continue building friendships – we’re very lucky.”

Facilities at Springhill House include a club lounge, ideal for socialising with friends, beautifully landscaped gardens in which to relax, and a convenient guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay. A dedicated Concierge takes care of the smooth day-to-day running of the development; and a security entrance system and 24 emergency call points provide added peace-of-mind.

“Our Concierge is the heart and soul of the development. She is always here to make sure that we are happy and entertained, and is so helpful and friendly”, Mo says. “We were looking for somewhere where we felt safe as our previous home wasn’t very secure. Now I feel so much more at ease, and I don’t even feel the need to lock up!”

Julie Ward, Regional Sales and Marketing Director McCarthy and Stone South East, said: “It gives us great pleasure when homeowners like Mo use the move to McCarthy and Stone as an opportunity to do everything they have ever wanted in life. We’re so pleased that Springhill House has made a fantastic impact on Mo and his wife by allowing them to relax and enjoy their lives together, in the exact location they got married. We hope they continue to enjoy their new lives at McCarthy and Stone, and wish Mo all the best in the London Marathon and his training!”

Designed exclusively for the over 60’s, the luxury development is complete with an outside raised water feature, stylish club lounge and a dedicated Concierge. Prices at Springhill House start at £444,950  for one bedroom apartments and £599,950 for two bedroom apartments.
