McCarthy and Stone, the housebuilder behind the new Retirement Living development Caesars Place in Godalming, has given Godalming and Farncombe Bowling Club, a welcome boost with a £500 donation.

Based at Phillips Memorial Ground, Godalming and Farncombe Bowling Club welcomes members aged nine to 90 to play bowls in a friendly environment. The club, which celebrated 150 years of bowling in Godalming in 2017, prides itself on welcoming those from any skill level or background to play bowls. It has a mix of social, casual, experienced and competitive players; and many of its members participate in men’s, ladies and mixed league matches.

McCarthy and Stone’s Customer Support Executive, Cheryl Ball, presented Robin Amy, Match Secretary and Vice President of Godalming and Farncombe Bowling Club with a cheque for £500, which will be going towards improvements to the clubhouse, including the installation of a defibrillator bought with the help of the local lions.

Robin Amy said: “As a club, we very much appreciate sponsorship, and financial assistance is hugely important to us to continue with ongoing tournaments and challenges. We are very grateful to McCarthy and Stone for its generous donation. As a club that is over 150 years old, we value our place within the Godalming community and support from local businesses plays an important part. We are looking to improve our kitchen so that we can continue to serve teas at our matches, which of course costs money, so donations such as this will help towards the costs.”

McCarthy and Stone Customer Support Executive, Cheryl added: “As a company, we appreciate our responsibilities go further than building quality retirement apartments, and we also seek to create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build.

“Godalming and Farncombe Bowling Club recognises the importance of participating in sporting and social activities, and fostering companionship across the generations, so it was an absolute pleasure to present this donation. The team at McCarthy and Stone’s Caesars Place development wishes Robin and the team every success with their ongoing commitment to bringing bowls into the lives of people of all ages.”
