Children from Giffnock Primary School on their visit Hilltree Court

Residents at McCarthy & Stone’s Hilltree Court in Giffnock were recently the willing participants in a social project being carried out by pupils of Primary 2A from Giffnock Primary.  Entitled ‘When Granny Was Young’ the children have been learning about what life was like when their grandparents were their age.

As part of this topic the children have learnt about how buildings can be adapted for specific needs and later living, and on their visit to McCarthy & Stone’s Hilltree Court in Giffnock they took the opportunity to see first-hand the features now available to residents.

The children really enjoyed their visit to Hilltree Court as Sandra Russell, class teacher for P2A explains:

“The children enjoyed seeing firsthand all the adaptations that McCarthy & Stone features in its Assisted Living apartments to make life easier for older residents.  And they had a wonderful opportunity to chat to some of the residents who live in the development and the children discovered lots of fascinating facts from the interviews they carried out with them on how life was for them in their childhood years.”

This activity further cements Hilltree Courts’ links with Giffnock Primary as Suzanne McElhiney, marketing manager for McCarthy & Stone in Scotland adds: “We’ve already worked on a number of projects with Giffnock Primary, and we were delighted to be able to help them bring this really interesting project to life.

“The children enjoyed visiting our new show area to see for themselves the stylish apartments that our residents call home, and I know our residents were thrilled to be able to show-off the development whilst having the chance to reminisce and chat to the children about the changes they’ve seen in life from when they were the children’s age!

“All of our apartments are designed with additional features to allow retirees to retain their independence for longer and importantly, enjoy continued home ownership. As a key part of their project the children were able to identify those features that we offer to make life easier for our residents here such as ovens and plug sockets at waist height, illuminated light switches, non-slip flooring in the bathroom and a level-access shower plus every apartment is wheelchair-friendly.”

Available exclusively for those over the age of 70, the new Assisted Living development in Giffnock offers a range of one and two bedroom apartments complete with communal facilities and support services for residents when they need them, either now or in the future; all in a safe and secure environment that offers peace of mind and continued independence in a property they continue to own.  Prices start from £198,950 for a one bedroom apartment, and £288,950 for a two bedroom apartment.
