George House rewards true friendship

24 May 2017

The joys of retirement are spending time with fabulous friends in an equally wonderful and relaxing environment. Which is exactly what homeowner Audrey Notschild is doing at McCarthy and Stone’s George House Retirement Living development in Stevenage. 74-year-old Audrey has encouraged three friends to come and enjoy life with her at the luxurious development in leafy Hertfordshire.

Making the most of McCarthy and Stone’s Refer A Friend scheme, where homeowners and friends are given up to £1,000 as a thank you for recommending, Audrey now has £3,000 to enjoy. Her new friends-turned-neighbours Christine Cole, 66, Michael Devenish, 75 and Eileen Newman, 85 were also rewarded £1,000 each.

Audrey, who retired from her job as an NHS prescription clerk last October, says: “I was absolutely delighted when I found out Michael, Christine and Eileen were buying apartments in George House too! I’ve known Tina for twenty years, we used to work together at the surgery.  While having a gossip over coffee at her house I showed her the McCarthy and Stone brochure and instantly her eyes lit up!”

Talking about the moment she found out her friends would be joining her to live at George House, Audrey says: “I am a fairly sociable person, so the fact my friends decided to move in too was just a bonus. I have known Michael for over forty years, he’s a scientist, a physicist and one of the fittest men I know. He’s thoroughly embracing life here, swimming and going to the local gym every week. I have known Eileen for three years, it’s brilliant she moved in too. Life here is magic, it’s absolutely wonderful, we don’t have to worry about a thing.”

McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living developments are designed to offer homeowners the very best in independent living within a safe and secure environment, with the opportunity to benefit from companionship when desired and privacy when needed.

Despite having friends at the development Audrey says there’s a lovely, community spirit inside. She explains: “We have coffee mornings every week and film nights in the Club Lounge. Some days we go for lunch in Stevenage Old Town.  It’s full of everything you could possibly wish for, shops, pubs, restaurants, so we walk down together. We are all enamored with it and think this is a great place to be! You can be as sociable or as private as you wish.”

Audrey is thrilled to be rewarded £3,000 for recommending her friends and is celebrating with a trip to the North Pole. She says: “Mike and I have decided to go on a cruise to the North Pole in October. We’re going to Norway, to sail through the fjords and up into the Arctic Circle. We’re both hoping to be lucky and see the Northern Lights.”

Audrey is so pleased with life at the development she’s happily spreading the word to other friends and family. She continues: “Michael’s brother came down to have a look around recently, we’re trying to encourage other friends and family to come and see George House too. It’s such a nice way of living, I tell everyone they should consider it. Life is sweet. These are very happy days, we are living the dream!”

Prices at George House currently start from £249,950 for a one bedroom apartment and £349,950 for a two bedroom apartment with selected homes benefiting from either a patio, walk out or Juliette balcony.

Audrey would encourage anyone thinking about retirement living to definitely do it. She concludes: “I honestly can’t think of any downside of moving here.  My family think it’s wonderful, they are happy to see me here, enjoying life and think it was a good decision to make. It really is excellent. It is a different way of life, but it is well worth making the effort to change.  We are absolutely loving it, there is no two ways about it.”

George House features an attractive fully-maintained courtyard-style garden and East and West-facing roof terraces to enjoy in the sunshine. Other facilities include a relaxing Club Lounge located on the top floor of the development to maximise light, a lift to all floors, secure car park and Guest Suite for visiting friends and family who wish to stay. A dedicated House Manager takes care of the smooth day-to-day running of the development; and a video entry system and 24 hour emergency call points provide added peace of mind.

Ideally located within close proximity to various shopping facilities including a local Waitrose, George House has excellent travel links to nearby areas including Hitchin, Letchworth, Welwyn Garden City and Knebworth, and is just a short train journey into London’s Kings Cross Station.

McCarthy & Stone has other popular developments now on release in Letchworth Garden City, Ickenham and are due to launch a development in Biggleswade this autumn. For more information please call 0800 201 4811 or click here.
