Dame Mary Peters DBE LL Sparkles at Marden Court Opening

08 May 2013

Former British Olympic champion, Dame Mary Peters DBE LL, was the guest of honour as McCarthy & Stone celebrated the official launch of its stunning show complex at its delightful new Later Living development in Whitley Bay this week.

Dame Mary, pentathlon gold medallist at the 1972 Olympic Games, formally marked the opening of the fully-furnished show apartments at Marden Court, on Grosvenor Drive by joining purchasers, visitors and staff for a glass of bubbly in the delightful homeowners’ lounge.

Alongside McCarthy & Stone’s Regional Senior Marketing Manager, Caroline Sinclair, Dame Mary took a guided tour of the development, before taking time out to meet and talk with other guests about her experiences both as an Olympian and an ambassador for the sport.

Caroline Sinclair said: “The official opening of Marden Court’s show complex signalled an important milestone in the development’s history, so we were delighted to have someone of Dame Mary’s stature here to help us mark the occasion in style.

“Dame Mary continues to be an inspiration for the older generation and is a shining example of someone who appreciates that age is something to be celebrated and enjoyed.

“Many of the people who visited us on the day still fondly remember her achievements at the Olympics in Munich, so it was a real honour for them to be able to meet her. It was a fabulous afternoon for everyone who attended, and one I’m sure we will all treasure for a long time to come.”
