Couple celebrate diamond wedding anniversary at McCarthy & Stone's Squire Court

15 January 2018

A very special celebration took place at McCarthy and Stone’s Squire Court Retirement Living development in South Molton, to commemorate the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of homeowners Commander Terry Woods OBE and Margaret Woods.

The couple, having lived in many countries with the Royal Navy, moved to Squire Court in September 2016; after 35 years in Devon. Since making their home at the development, they have made many new friends, who joined them for their 60th Wedding Anniversary celebrations.

Homeowners raised a toast to the couple at a party thrown in their honour; and the couple read their Telegram from the Queen as well as spending time with friends with guests.  Commander Woods also took the opportunity to surprise his wife, by having a bouquet of flowers delivered which was a replica of the bouquet she walked down the aisle with 60 years earlier.

Talking about their special day, Commander Terry Woods, said: “We were married in 1957 – considered to be the happiest year of the century; and, in our 60 years of marriage, we have never looked back. We have both been overwhelmed with kindness and good wishes from so many people, and we’re so pleased that we could spend our special day at Squire Court celebrating with old friends, family and our new friendly neighbours”.

Julie West, Sales Executive at Squire Court said: “We’re so pleased that Commander Woods and Mrs Woods celebrated such a big anniversary at Squire Court. It was lovely to have the homeowners and McCarthy and Stone staff involved in the celebrations, and see how much love and affection the couple clearly have for each other 60 years on.

“At McCarthy and Stone we value the importance of companionship in our later years. Events such as this are a superb way for homeowners to continue forging relationships with their neighbours at Squire Court.”

Squire Court comprises an attractive selection of 33 one and two bedroom apartments, exclusively designed for people aged 60; and the development provides everything homeowners could want for a relaxing and enjoyable retirement.

A homeowners’ lounge provides the ideal spot for socialising with new friends; while the landscaped gardens are perfect for relaxation or recreation – without the worry of maintenance or upkeep.  Visitors can stay over whenever they choose in the development’s dedicated guest suite, and a House Manager is on-hand to provide homeowners with support, should they need it.  A secure entrance system and 24 hour emergency call points also provide added peace-of-mind.

Proving to be incredibly popular with South Molton retirees, Squire Court is now over 95% percent sold, and just five apartments are remaining. Prices currently range from £199,995 for a one bedroom apartment and £249,995 for a two bedroom apartment.

More than 90% of customers would recommend McCarthy and Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the maximum Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 12 years’ running.  It is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade for 12 years, which is every year the awards have been run.
