Managed solely by local people, the charity aims to complement existing public transport options and provide a reliable, accessible and friendly service for the local community.
Chatterbus CIO Vice-chairman and Surrey County Councillor for Cobham, Mary Lewis, said: “Chatterbus plays a key role in helping many of Cobham’s older residents to get around for shopping, visiting friends and appointments. McCarthy Stone and Levanter Developments have recognised this, and we are very grateful for this generous contribution. It will ensure the bus is kept on the road for several months longer.”
Ward Councillor, Dorothy Mitchell says that she is delighted and adds that "she hopes other companies working or planning to work in Cobham will follow this example and support our amazing Chatterbus."
Georgina Akers, Regional Sales and Marketing Director McCarthy Stone South East, added: “As a company we appreciate that our responsibilities go further than developing quality retirement properties - we also seek to create a positive legacy and make a difference in the communities in which we build.
“When we were looking for a charity in Cobham to support, Chatterbus stood out for the positive role it plays in the lives of so many people. Insufficient access to transport is an issue across in the region, particularly for older people, so we are delighted to be able to donate to such a worthy cause.”
The new Retirement Living development, which is in partnership with Cobham-based Levanter Developments, will comprise of 24 luxury one and two bedroom apartments, designed exclusively for the over 60’s. Construction is already under way on site, with the first apartments expected to be available to reserve off-plan in early 2019.
Once complete, features at the new development will include a stunning club lounge, ideal for socialising with friends, beautifully landscaped gardens in which to relax, plus a comfortable guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay. A dedicated Concierge will take care of the day-to-day running of the development; while a secure entry system and 24-hour emergency call points will provide added peace-of-mind.
More than nine out of ten customers would recommend McCarthy Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 12 years’ running. McCarthy Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade, which is every year the awards have been run.
