Celebrations are in full swing at McCarthy & Stone, where a number of extra special events have been hosted in the South East region. From friendship parties, to significant birthdays and anniversary parties, there is always something to celebrate.

Mrs Jean Hargreaves from Hillborough House recently had a milestone birthday coinciding with the queen. The Retirement Living development on Little Common Road put on a right royal spread for the occasion, complete with tea and cake for homeowners and guests. Jean was the toast of the party and received a small token to mark the momentous birthday on behalf of her neighbours and staff at the development.

Jean commented on the atmosphere of the day: “It is an honour to share the same birthday as Her Majesty, and what better way to celebrate than with my new neighbours and friends. 90 is most definitely a landmark year, but I still feel just as active as ever. It’s lovely to have had this excuse to throw a good party and get to know the other homeowners here a little better.”

McCarthy & Stone pride themselves on the lifestyle benefits their developments provide for retirees, all of which take the hard work out of homeownership, provide peace of mind and allow more time for homeowners to spend doing things they enjoy. One homeowner in particular is fulfilling this prophecy and has been recognised for her adrenaline antics which include completing a skydive for her 80th birthday and taking part in a sponsored swim for charity!

“There’s a lot to be said about being fighting fit and at 80 I don’t take it for granted. I go to the gym and swim at the very least three times a week. I recently swam 100 lengths non-stop as part of a sponsored swim.” Julie Ward from McCarthy & Stone, comments “Our homeowners are demonstrating that retirement is more exciting than ever before, and they are redefining what it means to grow old.”

Homeowners at Kingswood Court in Sidcup were treated to a friendship party to celebrate moving in to their new apartments and welcome new friendships among neighbours. It was the first time all homeowners had gathered together and they enjoyed a slice of cake and dancing, with a touch of nostalgia for times-gone-by added with an appearance from the King of Rock, Elvis Presley.

David, Concierge at Kingswood Court said “The party was a great success. All the homeowners really enjoyed themselves. Gary’s performance was very well received, and he did a great job of getting the homeowners involved with some dancing and hand jiving. I’ve had many good reports back, saying how much they enjoyed the afternoon. There were a few still enjoy themselves when I left to go home!”
