Bembridge Sailing Club and McCarthy and Stone support the community

07 May 2015

Bembridge Sailing Club and McCarthy and Stone have worked in partnership to support the Bembridge community with a new defibrillator and outdoor housing which is easily accessible to assist any member of the public who enters cardiac arrest.

Established in 1886, Bembridge Sailing Club is one of the oldest sailing clubs in the UK and is located just a short walk away from Silver Sands Court, McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living development in Bembridge on the Isle of Wight.

Jacqui Meenan, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone South West, comments: “At McCarthy and Stone, we’re committed to not only building homes in which retirees aspire to live, but creating inclusive, engaged communities that people are proud to be a part of. Bembridge Sailing Club plays a large role in the local community and we are thrilled to have been able to collaborate on such a worthy cause.”

Daniel Jehan, secretary of Bembridge Sailing Club, said: “Without rapid and appropriate treatment, cardiac arrest will result in death. However, with the use of CPR and a defibrillator, the likelihood of survival is increased by 75%. We sincerely hope that no one in the area finds themselves in this situation, however with the installation of this life-saving equipment on the outside of the Club, we are equipped should the worst happen.

“We’re delighted that McCarthy and Stone recognised the importance of this defibrillator to the community and have worked with us to provide one.”

As part of its commitment to support the communities in which it builds, McCarthy and Stone will also sponsor the Bembridge Flower Show from 23-26 May.  Olive Light, Festival Organiser, comments: “We’re hugely grateful for the support McCarthy and Stone have shown us. We also look forward to meeting those who will be living at Silver Sands Court and welcoming them to our church.”

Ideally situated on the easternmost point of the Isle of Wight, Silver Sands Court comprises 40 apartments. Bembridge, winner of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight village of the year award, presents a tranquil retirement lifestyle set in breath-taking scenery. The development benefits from a host of local amenities close at hand, with the village also enjoying excellent transport links to neighbouring towns and the mainland. What’s more, with a plethora of beautiful walks and activities available thanks to the nearby harbour and sailing club, homeowners are able to make the most out of their retirement.

Any retirees interested in Silver Sands Court are invited to visit  or call 0800 2014811.
