Assisted Living Retirement Accommodation proposed to help address local housing need in Devizes
20 April 2016
Local residents gathered at Devizes Town Hall on 19 April 2016 to discuss proposals to re-develop former Council offices on Bath Road with high-quality Assisted Living (Extra Care) apartments, at a public exhibition held by Your Life Management Services (a joint venture between McCarthy & Stone the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder and Somerset Care, a not-for-profit care provider).
The early proposals that were on display will, if approved, regenerate a key site, which has already been allocated for residential development in the Local Neighbourhood Plan, with around 55 Assisted Living apartments, along with professional landscaping and appropriate car parking for residents, visitors and care providers.
Over thirty local residents and senior community figures (including elected representatives of Devizes Town Council and Wiltshire Council) attended on the day to view the plans, meet the development team and provide initial feedback on the proposals, which are due to be submitted formally for consideration in the coming months.
Shane Paull, McCarthy & Stone Regional Managing Director, said: “The public exhibition was an excellent opportunity for us to understand the views of the local community and I would like to take this opportunity to thank people for their constructive comments and questions. We have worked hard to ensure our proposals represent a sensitive development which complements the local area with high-quality materials and a design that brings this vacant part of the Browfort site back into productive use. We believe this site is an ideal location to provide much-needed Assisted Living accommodation in Devizes, which will assist in freeing up nearby family homes for other residents living in the town.”
He added, “Our proposals represent a significant investment right into the centre of Devizes, which will help improve a key strategic site and assist both new and existing residents who wish to keep on living in the town in their later years.”
Estate management, care and support are provided by Your Life Management Services, which is registered with the Care Quality Commission. The development would be over-seen by a fully-registered Estate Manager, with staff based on-site and support available 24 hours a day. Domestic assistance and personal care packages are provided.
