Age is just a number for one seasoned traveller and Solihull retiree

12 March 2018

Solihull retiree, Betty Chinnock (82), is proving age is just a number when it comes to enjoying retirement to the full. Having made the decision to downsize to McCarthy and Stone’s Brueton Place development on Blossomfield Road, Betty is making the most of the opportunity to do more of what she loves – and to travel the world.

Known for her adventurous spirit and having lived by the motto, ‘if you don’t ask you don’t get’, Betty has been on many fantastic overseas expeditions throughout her life.  From an ongoing love affair with Italy to a Canadian road trip in her 70s, it is difficult to find a place Betty hasn’t travelled to. Having moved to an age exclusive apartment, Betty is now gearing up for more exciting adventures – both home and away.

Betty explained what promoted her recent move: “I first heard about the McCarthy and Stone development in Solihull when a friend of mine suggested going to an Open Day. I was so immediately impressed that I left the event with a spring in my step and proceeded with the exchange process which only took 10 days!”

According to Betty, she has had the support of her nearest and dearest throughout her move. “My family have been incredibly supportive throughout the whole process,” Betty said. “There was an incredibly fast turnaround, as I sold my property and bought at Brueton Place in just over a week.  Without the superb assistance I received from McCarthy and Stone and the unparalleled backing of my family, none of this would have been possible.

“My family are very happy to see me enjoying my retirement at Brueton Place, they feel comfortable knowing that my property and I are safe. Last year someone attempted to break into my house while I was away on holiday. The intruders damaged the back door and gate which both needed replacing.

“Since living at Brueton Place, I don’t have to worry about intruders and can lock up and leave safe in the knowledge that because of the excellent security features, my home will be safe while I am on holiday. This weekend I’m travelling to Sidmouth in Devon with some old friends and it gives me such peace of mind knowing that my home will be safe while I’m away.”

McCarthy and Stone’s luxury, age exclusive developments are designed to offer homeowners the very best in independent living within a safe and secure environment, with the opportunity to benefit from companionship when they want it and privacy and assistance when they need it.

Like many retirees, Betty had come to the decision that she wanted to spend less time worrying about the upkeep of what was the family home – in Betty’s case, a detached three-bedroom house – and more time doing the things she enjoys.

“Initially I did wonder whether I was making the right decision as I lived on my own for 15 years since my late husband passed away, but I am confident that the move was right for me. Straight away I loved the spaciousness of the hallways and the tranquillity of my new home. My one-bedroom apartment is perfect, it has a juliette balcony which looks over an abundance of trees and beautifully landscaped gardens which I adore waking up to every morning.”

“There are lots of events here at Brueton Place that I love attending”, Betty continued. “We have a weekly coffee morning on Wednesday, and it’s great to socialise with other homeowners. The community aspect of life at McCarthy and Stone was very appealing to me, all of the fellow homeowners at Brueton Place are very friendly and happy to chat. I have the perfect balance of a private life and a social life, and I’ve made lots of fantastic new friends here. I cannot emphasise enough how helpful the House Manager, Tracey Harvey has been – she’s truly unique!”

Martin Edwards, Regional Managing Director for McCarthy and Stone West Midlands, comments: “It gives us such great satisfaction when we see homeowners such as Mrs Chinnock settle in to their new lifestyle so quickly. Betty is clearly making the most out of life at Brueton Place, from involving herself with the social events to having the confidence to continue to enjoy new adventures, we are thrilled that she is able to get so much out of her retirement.”

Comprising an attractive selection of 41 one and two-bedroom Retirement Living apartments, Brueton Place is proving incredibly popular with Solihull retirees with just 12 apartments remaining. Prices currently range from £279,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and from £365,000 for a two-bedroom apartment.

Retirees can make the most of the beautiful landscaped gardens, knowing all the external maintenance is taken care of. They can also feel secure in the knowledge the House Manager is on hand to provide any help or support should they need it; and that friends and family can stay over in the development’s comfortable guest suite.

Conveniently situated just a mile from the Touchwood Shopping Centre and bustling high street, homeowners will benefit from easy access to all essential amenities and excellent transport links.
