A golden moment in Chippenham - Olympic legend, Dame Mary Peters opens retirement complex

18 December 2017

This week saw Chippenham retirees joined by an Olympic sporting legend – Dame Mary Peters CH DBE RNR to mark the opening of a new Retirement Living complex in Chippenham, McCarthy and Stone’s Waterford Place.

Dame Mary Peters who won the women’s pentathlon gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, was joined by staff, homeowners and their relatives to perform a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the grand opening of the development.

The grand opening was also a great opportunity for retirees in Chippenham to have a guided tour of Waterford Place, and see for themselves how they could enjoy their retirement in a quality, low maintenance apartment.

Dame Mary also delivered a talk on her sporting past, before stopping for a bite to eat and a chat.

Dame Mary said: “I was delighted to be invited to Chippenham for the opening of Waterford Place. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to chat to homeowners there, reminisce about the good old days and share my gold medal with them. I was so inspired by some of their stories and I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the ribbon-cutting and opening celebrations of what is truly a remarkable development.”

Kim Caldwell, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone, commented: “We were thrilled to welcome Dame Mary Peters, as well as so many people from the local area to celebrate the opening of Waterford Place and give it the golden treatment it deserves. We are committed to delivering an exceptional lifestyle and, as such, the development enjoys a prime location with access to a superb array of local amenities, and the highest specification fixtures and finishes throughout.”

Now with just one apartment remaining, Waterford Place consists of 39 stunning one, two and three bedroom apartments aimed exclusively at the over 60s.

Located just a short walk from the vibrant town centre, Waterford Place boasts a stunning homeowner’s lounge ideal for socialising with friends, beautiful landscaped gardens and a guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay. The development also benefits from its own House Manager, who is there to ensure the smooth-running of the development, a security entrance system, plus 24-hour emergency call points for added peace of mind for both homeowners and their families.
