McCarthy and Stone unleash the dragon and raise over £20,000 for Royal Voluntary Service

13 July 2017

McCarthy and Stone’s West Midland’s team paddled their way to victory last week as the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder took part in a Dragon Boat Race at Worcester Rowing Club and raised in excess of £23,700 for older people’s charity, Royal Voluntary Service

The Coventry based McCarthy and Stone team rounded up more than 90 people to attend on the day including 31 key sponsors; Patrick Parsons, TCI Interiors, Spectrum, Barnesmore Construction, E H Smith, Wienerberger, Harley Finishings, Hunters, Focus, Claude Hooper, Edward Thomas and many more. All attendees were split into teams and raced three times, the fastest three teams competed in the Grand Finale and McCarthy and Stone’s construction site team, the Aldridge Armadas, took home the trophy.

Following the competitive races, everyone soaked up the sun with a barbecue and a raffle which raised £670, thanks to prizes donated by Edwards Technical, Neil Boddison Associates, and Taylor Herrick Recruitment and other suppliers.

This special event helped to continue celebrations for the retirement housebuilder’s 40th anniversary. In 1977, McCarthy and Stone opened its very first retirement development, paving the way for the creation of an entirely new sector of the property market.

To honour this important milestone, the award-winning housebuilder is partnering with Royal Voluntary Service in 2017, with the aim of raising over £130,000 in support of projects across the West Midlands and the rest of the country.  Since the beginning of the year, McCarthy and Stone developments across the West Midlands have been busy hosting fundraising events such as Vintage Tea Parties and Summer Garden Parties, and more events are planned for the second half of the year.

Martin Edwards, Deputy Regional Managing Director for McCarthy and Stone West Midlands, comments: “The Dragon Boat Race was a fantastic event and we want to thank all of the sponsors who supported us on the day to fundraise on behalf of Royal Voluntary Service. 40 years is an incredible achievement for us, we believe this is testimony to the quality and attention to detail that goes into the service we provide, and all of our developments.”

McCarthy and Stone’s West Midlands region currently has a portfolio of 17 developments selling or under construction and, due to its ongoing growth and expansion, it is gearing up to launch 12 new developments over the next year. Each individual development will be carefully designed to suit the requirements of older people, offering homeowners the very best in independent living within a safe and secure environment.
