Natasha Wharton

The summer season is packed with a variety of events to appeal to a range of interests and ages. Savour the delights of new and exciting cuisine, enjoy the thrill of world-class horse racing and discover the latest super cars, at events taking place across the summer months.

If you want to visit any of the following events specially, don’t forget that if you’re a homeowber at one of McCarthy & Stone developments, then you are welcome to stay in the guest suite at another development, where available.

Here are some of the key events to look out for this summer…

Wimbledon Tennis Championships
1 – 14 July

It is one of, if not the most famous tennis tournament in the world. Wimbledon has been running since 1877, with the most talented players vying for the top spot over the years. Tickets for the centre, No. 1 and No. 2 courts are highly sought after, with only a small number successfully winning them in the public ballot. Alongside the world-class tennis, spectators can enjoy a famous treat of strawberries and cream served with an ice-cold glass of champagne – perfect on a warm summer day.

Henley Royal Regatta

3 – 7 July

Line the river banks of Henley for 90 world-class rowing races and cheer on the talented crews from across the world. Henley Royal Regatta is one of the highlights of the summer social calendar, previously attracting the likes of Sir Steve Redgrave and The Princess Royal. In terms of dress code, anything goes on the banks but if you’re enjoying the hospitality of an enclosure, ensure you check the strict dress code.

Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival – Weymouth
14 – 15 July

The best, fresh local produce takes centre-stage at the Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival with celebrity chefs showcasing mouth-watering dishes that you can recreate at home.
Pick up top tips on how to get the best from a wide selection of catches, as well as sampling a variety of international delights, from seafood paella to swordfish kebabs.

Edinburgh Art Festival
25 July – 26 August

This city-wide celebration of the best in visual art brings together a diverse and vibrant programme of exhibitions and events in city’s galleries and museums. From UK and international leading artists to the best emerging talent, art lovers will be spoilt for choice.

Qatar Goodwood Festival, Chichester
30 July – 3 August

Eagerly anticipated by horse racing enthusiasts, the so-called ‘Glorious Goodwood’ is just around the corner. As a highlight of the flat-racing season, the programme features five days of thrilling races set in the stunning Sussex countryside. From glamourous Ladies Day to the final fixture, the Qatar Stewards Cup, this is one event that is not to be missed.

Bristol Balloon Fiesta

Bristol International Balloon Fiesta
8 – 11 August
The sight of hundreds of hot air balloons ascending above the horizon as dawn breaks across Bristol is quite magical, and one not to be missed. As well as mass ascents at dawn on particular days, there is also one at teatime followed by a firework display once night falls. Alongside the balloon lifts, there is also lots of entertainment and fun fair rides.

Lendy Cowes Week, Isle of Wight
10 – 17 August
Soak up the vibrant atmosphere and glamour of Lendy Cowes Week, a highlight in the sailing events calendar. Enjoy a combination of competitive sailing from the likes of Olympic and world class professionals, as well as weekend sailors. Whilst on shoreside, there is a festival feel, with social events, parties and live entertainment.

Salon Privé – Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire
5 – 8 September
Salon Privé is a stylish garden party, aimed at those who enjoy the finer things in life. Set in the grounds of Blenheim Palace, this unique experience features a fine collection of supercars, hypercars and classic cars, along with a luxury retail village and finest cuisine. Boodles Ladies Day is a notable highlight of the event – experience a fun and relaxing fine dining experience, whilst dressed in stunning summer outfits and glamourous matching hats.
