Why the Cotswolds?

Have you ever dreamt of living closer to the English countryside? What would you choose a picturesque town or a busy bustling city centre? Both options give you good access to transport links and the shops for your daily needs when you live in a McCarthy & Stone apartment.

The Cotswolds could be an area that provides the balance between the two, making it an ideal place to retire to.

Research by the Countryside Recreation Network shows that people often feel physically and psychologically better in country locations, but it isn’t always practical to leave right off the beaten track.

The Cotswolds is famed for the beauty of its rural landscapes and its picturesque towns and villages. The striking architecture, from cosy country cottages to country estates, the area attracts those for whom quality of life is high on the agenda.

The architecture of the Cotswolds is world-famous, with soft yellow Cotswold stone and traditional materials used in the buildings in some areas. The fabulous undulating countryside is instantly recognisable; it is quintessential England at its best. The region is filled with Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) and Conservation Areas for good reason.

On the edge of the Cotswolds, the Regency town of Cheltenham offers an impressive range of stylish shops and restaurants, and a range of festivals, not forgetting the famous horseracing course. Whilst nearby Gloucester will impress with its fascinating history, Tewkesbury presents a range of beautiful buildings to explore and in the south and Stroud holds one of the country's best Farmers' Markets.

Both Montpellier in Cheltenham and Stroud have been named in The Times' countdown of the thirty coolest places to live, an indication of what incredible nuggets of beauty, style and culture the Cotswolds have to offer!

If you think this sounds like the ideal place for your retirement why not arrange to visit one of our developments in the Cotswolds with both Resale and New apartments available for sale:

  • Foxhall Court, Banbury (Resale)
