Renting Has Allowed Me To Get Out There

Having lived in the Redditch area for over 40 years, Ron, was keen to move into a community with like-minded people of a similar age. The location of Milward Place was perfect for him.

Ron comments: “I lived by myself in a residential apartment where you don’t know or see your neighbours. There was a wide range of ages with people at different points in their lives, and I began to feel quite isolated and a bit lonely. The socialisation aspect of McCarthy & Stone was very appealing to me, as it opened up the opportunity to meet new people.”

Homeownership was not an option for Ron, who at 63 at the time of moving did not want to be tied in to another mortgage.

Ron comments: “The option to rent was extremely welcome as it allowed me to keep the level of flexibility I desired.

“My previous apartment was a temporary stop-gap while I found something more permanent, but I wanted Milward Place to be my home.

“I didn’t want to be burdened with having to move again and the stresses this can bring. Taking the decision to move into a retirement community sooner and not waiting until I was slightly older, meant getting myself in the best position, whatever the future might hold.

“It has allowed me to have the perfect balance of private life, and once more residents move in, social life. It’s the best of both worlds and it’s allowed me to – get back out there!”

Since moving to Milward Place, Ron has been getting to know some of the other residents there and is looking forward to new people moving in over the coming months.

“I was one of the very first people to get the keys to their apartment”, say Ron. “I think there was five or six of us that moved in at the same time, so it was fairly quiet to begin with. Over the past 18 months, I have got to know everyone, enjoyed lots of coffee mornings where Covid-19 restrictions have allowed and made new friends, so have really seen the benefits during this challenging time.”

Ron was aware of the history of Milward Place before building started there and kept a close eye on its progress. He attended a discovery day at a local hotel where he chatted through the various options available to him with the McCarthy & Stone team, and decided to sign up on the spot.

Ron continues: “The McCarthy & Stone team were very helpful when it came to explaining how the rental package would work and it was just what I was looking for. The best part about it was that the sales team allowed me to spend a night in one of the guest suites at another nearby development.

“This is something really unique that you don’t get elsewhere. It allowed me to picture myself living there and get a real feel for what Milward Place would be like when it was complete.

“The way people all knew each other and would plan activities and events as a community, was really encouraging and gave me confidence that I had made the right choice in renting an apartment at Milward Place.”

As Ron settles into life at Milward place he feels safe in the knowledge that having an assured tenancy brings, and has the peace of mind that should his circumstances change in the future, after his initial fixed term he is only required to give two months’ notice, making renting a much more flexible option.
