Join Our Residents' Group

Ken Wright, Chairman of InFoRM, talks about his work leading our residents’ campaign group and how you can join him in the future.

When I moved into Salter Court in Colchester in 2007, I wasn’t planning to meet MPs, Government Ministers and national groups to talk about life for the over 60s. But through InFoRM (the Independent Forum of Residents of McCarthy & Stone), that’s just what I found myself doing.

InFoRM was established in 2011 as a group for residents in retirement housing – to make sure their voice was heard. I was pleased to be voted the Forum’s first Chairman and over the last 18 months, our members have participated in national conferences, presentations to Government Ministers, seminars with MPs as well as a number of national inquiries into later life.

We're recruiting

We are now looking for new members to join us in our work. Our current group of 10 members are spread across the UK, so when requests come into me for us to participate by giving views, information or attending  meetings, I am able to choose the best member to get involved, taking into account the location and the main interests of our members.

We have an ambitious programme of work and we are keen to recruit new members to help us. All costs are covered by McCarthy & Stone and the group is completely independent and sets its own agenda.

Our future plans include:

  • Promoting the views of the over 60's on all topics but focusing on health, housing and care.
  • Engaging and lobbying local and national government on their policies for later life.
  • Working with the local NHS as well as health, housing and social care services to inform them of the benefits of suitable housing for later life.
  • Work with McCarthy & Stone on its future designs and services.
  • Work closely with McCarthy & Stone’s Greater Life Advisory Board (GLAB) and the company’s Resident Ambassadors.

The group meets four times a year in convenient locations and applications are open to all residents in McCarthy & Stone’s developments. The application process is now open and applications should be returned by 7th December.

If this sounds interesting, please do email and they can send you a leaflet and application form.

We have an exciting plan for the future. We hope you can join us.

Ken Wright, Chairman.
