Meet the makers

Celebrating heritage skills and inspiring a new generation of crafters.

As part of our 40th anniversary celebrations, McCarthy & Stone is supporting Royal Voluntary Service's annual GrandFest event, which this year will take place on 18th June in London. Together, we launched a search for GrandMakers - individuals over 70 who would like to volunteer to teach a GrandFest masterclass, or those 60 plus who would like to take part at a GrandFest event at a McCarthy & Stone development, where they can share, learn, or brush up on their skills in crafts such as jam making, wood turning, weaving and more.

We're delighted to be able to showcase below some of the GrandMakers who will be providing workshops at events throughout McCarthy & Stone developments in Scotland, the East Midlands, the West Midlands, the South West, and the South East. For those that can't make the event, we've also searched the Internet for the very best craft bloggers, for tips on how to start learning new skills at home.

Royal Voluntary Service and McCarthy & Stone partnership

Royal Voluntary Service shares our vision of helping people live happier, longer and healthier lives, aiming to create a society where everyone feels involved and everyone feels valued no matter their age. So to celebrate our heritage and to recognise the achievements of generations of employees and homeowners, we're running events throughout 2017 working in partnership with Royal Voluntary Service, with the aim to raise over £130,000 to support projects across the country.

So many people of my generation would make perfect GrandMakers. We all have different interests, knowledge and skills which have given us great pleasure over the years. GrandFest is a fantastic opportunity to share this expertise with younger people and to inspire the next generation to enjoy these hobbies and experiences.
