Sheila Haydock, Rockhaven Court

After a 12 month period of careful research, consideration and planning, we decided that a move to a much smaller and more practical home, at a time when we would both be still young enough to establish and enjoy our new home, was the best possible way forward for us.

By choosing one of McCarthy & Stone’s retirement apartments, and with their extensive expert assistance and support, we were able to successfully ‘right-size’ our home from a 3 bedroom detached bungalow to a new 1 bedroom apartment.

Bringing with us a drastically reduced level of lifetime possessions, we have now furnished our new home with items befitting our new surroundings and lifestyle.

We are now able to pursue our passions such as travel and hobbies without the responsibilities of a large home weighing us down. We now have a smaller home to clean and maintain, with smaller annual household bills, which in turn leads to an improvement of our quality of life.

The development itself is situated in an ideal location for us, close to all local amenities and transport links. It is exceptionally well maintained with extensive garden and car parking areas.

We have the benefit of excellent communal areas within the building, where we can meet up with our fellow homeowners, whether it is for an afternoon chat and/or evening activity in the homeowners’ lounge, or just a ten-minute chat in the foyer or the laundry room.

There is always something to suit everyone. We can join in any of the varied social activities held within the development to a greater or lesser degree as we may wish, or spend our time quite happily in our own apartment. The choice is always ours to make. Everybody is very friendly and all act as good neighbours, you no longer need to feel that you are alone or isolated in your own home, as there is always someone nearby.

We have the considerable benefit of our House Manager who is ‘second to none’ and is paramount in facilitating our excellent home environment – the ‘Captain that steers the ship’!
