Art, craft and charity

Homeowners in our retirement apartments have been filling their time in a host of creative, colourful and charitable ways — proving it’ll take more than a pandemic to quell the positive spirit in our communities.

Making the most of retirement living – despite COVID 19

From rediscovering a hobby to knitting rainbows and making colourful face coverings, the enthusiasm for arts and crafts over this strange summer has been endless. And much of this talent went into helping others too. What an inspirational bunch!

Here are just some of our favourites

Thames Hospice volunteer of 15-years, Wendy from Lancaster House, made over 200 scrubs with the help of the WI Middlesex Federation. These were donated to Hillingdon and Harefield Hospital.

Janet made a wonderful selection of greetings cards which she sold at her retirement development, Brueton Place, Solihull, donating all profits to the Daily Mail appeal to buy PPE for the NHS and the local Marie Curie Hospice.

The Knit & Knatter Ladies at George House, Hertfordshire, made 71 premature baby bonnets for their local hospital in Stevenage.

Lindy brightened up the front doors of all our retirement homes in Orchard Gate, Stratford Upon Avon, knitting a rainbow for each one.

Homeowners at Lyme Wood Grange, Cheshire made scarecrows to thank everyone in the community who helped keep their fridges stocked with fresh produce.

Penelope from Imber Court, Kent, has been making reusable face coverings for family and friends.

At William Bradford Court House, South Yorkshire, homeowners made face coverings and gift cards for sale, raising £275 for Bassetlaw Hospice.

David, Hillier Court, produced a 12-page booklet for budding artists on the ‘Prospective Projection’. Copies are available for £4.50 with all profits going to the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Roger of Beechfield Court in Minehead used lockdown to finish his memoir, looking back at 80 years of his life. Encouraging others to give it a go, he says that revisiting memories gave him a lot of pleasure. The book has now been produced for family and friends to enjoy.

We create elegant award-winning retirement properties for sale or for rent. Our homeowners build vibrant, fun-filled communities.
