In Part Two we pick impressive tipples for the main event – whether that’s turkey or rib of beef – as well as a selection of wines to be enjoyed with fish and seafood dishes.

 

Best for seafood and smoked salmon starters

Malborough_award

The best all rounder 

We recommend: The Best Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc made at Yealands winery, with fruit grown in the premium Awatere valley, New Zealand. Packed with zesty, refreshing gooseberry and wild herb flavours, it's perfect with smoked salmon. It won an IWC Silver 2020 too.

The classic white

We recommend: Joseph Mellot Sancerre La Gravelliere. Aromatic and complex with elegant minerality and mouth-watering gooseberry and guava flavours, it’s gorgeous with seafood – and soft cheeses.

Chilean_chardonnay

Best for fuller-flavoured fish and seafood dishes

We recommend: The Best Chilean Chardonnay with its ripe melon and grapefruit flavours. It’s made at the world famous Cono Sur winery with grapes from the cool Casablanca valley and aged in French oak for 5 months to add complexity. It's also delicious with creamy pasta.

Best with turkey and all the trimmings

The best of Tuscany 

For a traditional roast turkey dinner you need a wine with acidity and tannin to cut through the rich flavours. We recommend: The Best Toscana. With a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon added to classic Tuscan grape varieties, hours of meticulous blending and 16 months ageing in oak barrels, this Italian beauty is perfect for the big day. It's a Best Buy from Which? too.

Best new white wine discovery

We recommend: The Best Grenache Blanc  from South Africa. Amazing value, this wine is layered with peach and apricot flavours with a hint of white pepper and a wonderful creamy texture. Perfect with roast turkey or pork.

Best red with big flavours 

For fuller flavoured gamey dishes we recommend the deliciously complex, elegant, strawberry-scented The Best Single Vineyard Pinot Noir. A really serious wine for the money, it's a great choice to partner roast duck or goose as well as turkey.

Best for rib of beef 

The Argentinian Malbec 

We recommend: the classic The Best Gran Montana Uco Valley Malbec. Produced in partnership with stellar Argentinian producer Zuccardi from grapes grown more than 900m above sea level, it’s intense and flavourful, with vibrant blueberry and bramble fruit.

Award Zarper

The Chilean Malbec

We recommend: Zarper Malbec as the perfect partner for roast beef dishes this Christmas. The grapes come from the cool Bio Bio valley, so this is a fresh, beautifully balanced Malbec with perfumed berry fruit aromas and succulent, creamy black cherry flavours. And it won a DWWA Gold this year.
