Keep in touch
Although we’re being encouraged to continue to stay at home and social distance, we can still keep in touch with our loved ones.
Technology and the internet have put everything at our fingertips and it's no surprise, that socialising online has boomed in recent months. To have a group video call with your family, host an online quiz with friends or send a virtual birthday card via email has never been easier. You don’t need to be tech savvy – you only need to know the basics!
Use this time to think of creative ways to socialise. Can your coffee mornings, knit and knatter group or book club go digital by arranging a video chat instead? Before you know it, your social calendar could just be as busy as normal.
Whether you want to see a friendly face or the cheeky grin of your grandchild – arranging a video call on your computer, smartphone or tablet will be sure to give you the ‘pick-me-up’ you need. Coffee dates, pub quizzes, bingo and even fitness classes are being broadcast via group chats, helping communities feel connected every day.
It may be a little tricky to post a letter but sending an email couldn’t be easier. Emails and messaging groups are a lovely tool to check in with loved ones, and at this time, it’s particularly important for us all to let others know we’re thinking of them. Whether it’s a quick hello or a message of celebration for a special occasion, with an email you can write everything you would in a letter – from wishing someone well, to reminiscing over a story shared together, to a new recipe you’ve found that they must try.
Social media platforms from Facebook to Instagram take minutes to set up and allows you to find friends (old and new), keep in touch with your family, see photos and videos, and share your own news too. It can also be a great way to find out what’s happening in your local community, so you can continue to feel connected on a daily basis.
