Construction Restarts at Leyland Development

MP for South Ribble, Katherine Fletcher, visited the site of the McCarthy Stone Retirement Living Plus development, Balshaw Court in Leyland this week, to mark construction restarting there after the leading manager and developer of retirement communities continues the gradual remobilisation of its build activities.

Construction was paused temporarily at the Balshaw Court site in the wake of the national coronavirus lockdown.

Katherine Fletcher MP joined McCarthy Stone at the site to explore the development plans and catch-up with the team now they are back on site.

Katherine Fletcher MP commented:

“It was great to meet the team at McCarthy Stone’s Balshaw Court site and see all the hard work they’ve put into making the site COVID secure so that work can restart in a safe and secure way.

“I am pleased to see investment in Leyland and the creation of jobs in a variety of on-site roles. Building again in a safe way and investing in our communities is key to keeping our economy going and our post COVID recovery both here in Leyland and across South Ribble.”

Chris Wylde, Site Manager for Balshaw Court said the restart was a welcome one. “We are working with a reduced team to ensure social distancing rules can be enforced, and we are adapting well to the new working conditions.

“The safety and wellbeing of the public and everyone who works on our sites remains our top priority. We are well prepared and ready to deliver the new homes for the increasing number of people who are looking to downsize.”

Currently, there are c.3 million people in the UK over the age of 65 who are looking to downsize, so McCarthy Stone’s gradual remobilisation is a well-timed one.

Chris Wylde continues: “The commitment from our colleagues and contractors in Leyland throughout this most challenging period had been exceptional, and I would like to thank them for all their support. We are pleased to get back to what we do best, and that’s enriching the lives of our customers by creating new homes that are more suited to their needs and which will allow them to live safely and independently for longer."
