Tunbridge Wells Fundraiser Tees Off With Donation From McCarthy Stone

McCarthy Stone, the developer behind the Tunbridge Wells retirement communities, The Dairy and Southborough Gate, has given a much-needed boost to a local football club and its efforts to raise funds for MIND in memory of local businessman Phil Millington.

Tunbridge Wells Youth & Ladies Football Club is hosting a fundraising event on Friday 2nd October at Hever Club, with all proceeds donated to mental health charity, MIND. An 18-hole golf tournament will take place on the day, and McCarthy Stone has shown its support by sponsoring the winner’s trophy.

Other activities planned for the fundraising events have included a children’s foot golf competition and there is also a Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/philmillington2020, which will remain open until Sunday 3rd October 2020. All donations will go to MIND.

The charity event is being held in memory of prominent local man Phil Millington who sadly died in June this year. Phil, who lived in Southborough and ran the Satellite Shop on the high street for many years, played an active role in Tunbridge Wells Youth & Ladies Football Club including being an important part of the clubhouse fundraising committee. Phil’s son also plays for the football club.

The fundraising committee at Tunbridge Wells Youth & Ladies Football Club explained why the forth coming charity event was so important to the club: “Phil was such a well-known and well-liked man and he is greatly missed by everyone at the club. He made a huge difference to the children, coaches and parents in his son’s year group as well as playing a vital role in raising money towards our new clubhouse. We wanted to put on the fundraising events to bring Phil’s friends, family and our wider community together in his honour and raise money for a very important cause.

“We are grateful for McCarthy and Stone’s support. The golf tournament will be one of the highlights of the fundraising events, in fact the golf tournament will become an annual fixture with the winner’s trophy hotly contested as we come together yearly to honour Phil.”

Julie Ward, National Sales Director for McCarthy Stone, commented: “An important part of what we do here at McCarthy Stone is support initiatives in the communities in which we build to help create a lasting, positive legacy.

“When we heard about the fundraiser that Tunbridge Wells Youth & Ladies Football Club were organising, we were very keen to contribute in some way. Not only is the event an excellent way of paying tribute to a well-respected member of the Southborough community, it will also raise funds for MIND – a charity that really does make a positive difference to the lives of many people. It was our pleasure to sponsor the trophy for the golf tournament and I would urge people in Tunbridge Wells to support what is set to be fantastic event.”

Situated on St. John’s Road, McCarthy Stone’s Retirement Living Plus development, The Dairy, comprises a selection of one and two-bedroom apartments for people aged 70 and over. The Southborough Gate Retirement Living development on Pinewood Gardens has been designed for the over 60s.
