Due to the current and unprecedented situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, the food service offering at McCarthy & Stone has had to change in recent weeks as all our restaurants and bistros have closed in line with Government guidance. To help protect and support our homeowners we have adapted our meal service in over 100 of our developments which now offer a meal delivery service for homeowners that has proved to be hugely popular.

Delectable Daily Meals Delivered

Homeowners at our McCarthy & Stone Retirement Living PLUS developments can enjoy healthy meals for lunch that are delivered to apartments by the on-site Estate Team. There are also supper plates available that provide a lighter option for homeowners to have in the evening.

The menus themselves have remained largely unchanged from when the restaurants and bistros were open. This means our homeowners can still make the most of the quality cuisine they are accustomed to enjoying from our skilled catering teams.

The service is proving very popular with homeowners, as it means they don’t need to leave their properties to shop for ingredients. In some developments as many as 85% of homeowners now enjoy a meal delivered to them daily.

All Precautions are Taken

The utmost care is taken by our staff to ensure that social distancing is respected with both our cooking and delivery. The food trays are delivered outside the apartments of homeowners using disposable plates and cutlery reducing the risk of cross contamination.

Additional Food Parcels are Available

In addition to our meal delivery service, all Retirement Living PLUS developments are offering vegetable boxes for our residents to purchase. This has also proved to be incredibly popular with our homeowners. These boxes are in addition to the ‘essentials’ parcels that are already provided, which include items such as bread, milk and eggs.

Plenty of Positive Feedback

Along with the fact that we’re able to provide our homeowners with the fantastic meals they deserve, we’ve been delighted by all the positive feedback we’ve had from numerous developments across the UK.

Many have been showing their appreciation through emails, letters and messages back to the Estate teams.

One of our homeowners, Len Gray, wrote:
“The service has gotten quite slick as you've all [the teams involved] made the very best of a challenging situation. I’m looking forward to service as normal as soon as can be. Until then thanks to you all. Keep well.”

A resident in Stratford-upon-Avon even wrote a poem about one of our chefs entitled: ‘An Ode to Chris Green’ which you can read here.

Our Catering Director, Andrew Rowlands, has also offered his thoughts and paid tribute to all the McCarthy & Stone staff that are working tirelessly, despite all the challenges they face at the moment:.

“Producing and delivering nearly 5,000 meals each day the Catering teams and the Estate teams at each development are working extremely hard to feed our residents. .

Chefs, Kitchen Assistants, Estate Managers, Duty Managers and Care & Support Workers are all working around the clock to make sure residents get at least one hot meal a day, which I know is very much appreciated by all. .

Some developments are going above and beyond and have even been providing little treats to brighten up their residents’ days as best they can. So, a big thank you to everyone involved for going that extra mile and supporting our residents in this unprecedented time.”
